Connie Massey has won her bid for Watkinsville council Post 2, according to unofficial results* provided by city election supervisor Julie Sanders.

Massey, a picture framer, garnered 224 votes to jailer Nichole Brooks' 158.  Of the 1,875 registered Watkinsville voters, 20 percent cast ballots in the city's election.  Of that, roughly eight percent voted in advance.

Massey will fill the seat formerly held by Henry Norman, who resigned in September when he moved outside of the city limits.  She'll be sworn in immediately to serve out the remainder of the term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2013.

Though a Special Election was held, Watkinsville managed to avoid a general election.  Current councilmen Mike Link (Post 5 - mayor pro tempore) and Toby Smith (Post 3) qualified for re-election and were unopposed. Mike Huff was the lone candidate to qualify for Post 4 after Samantha Purcell announced she wouldn't seek re-election.  Huff, an office manager for Northeast Georgia Gutter and Garage,  will take office in January and serve a two-year term.
