Are You Registered To Vote?

Oconee County citizens must be registered by Oct. 11 to be able to cast a ballot in Nov. 8 elections.

A single referendum appears on the ballot for the county-wide election Nov. 8: the continuation of a 1-cent (ELOST).

If ELOST is renewed, it will continue to fund facility improvements and technology upgrades. 

Whether or not you support the continuation of ELOST, let your voice be heard by casting a ballot. The deadline to register to vote at the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration Office is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

In Bogart, the top two vote-getters in a 3-way race will sit on the city council. Two incumbents, Ralph Sheridan and TL Turman, are pitted against Turman's wife, Linda.

City residents wishing to vote in the upcoming elections should also register through the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration Office, though cities manage their own elections, a representative of the office explained. Online registration through the Georgia Secretary of State's website is also available.

If you are unsure about your registration status, you can check it on the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page or call the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration at 706-769-3958. 

Registered voters may request an absentee ballot be sent to them by mail. Early voting begins on Monday, Oct. 17 and runs through Friday, Nov. 4.  To vote early on the ELOST referendum, you must go to the county Elections Office. On Election Day, voters will report to one of 13 assigned polling places.

Early voting in Watkinsville takes place at City Hall. On Election Day, voters will head to their assigned precinct, which is either the or Oconee County Government Annex building, city clerk Julie Sanders said.

Those wishing to vote early in the Bogart election should request an absentee ballot be mailed to them, city clerk Diane Craft said. Call 770-725-7386 for more information.
