The Electoral College and Popular Vote Explained

It hasn't happened often, but what would happen if the electoral college vote and popular vote are split?

It's a close race, no doubt about that. The two presidential candidates are neck and neck in virtually every poll. If you look at the attached Electoral Map, you'll quickly see that the majority of states are red, but the number of electoral college votes go to President Obama.  So what is this electoral college? The electoral college is a process, not a place, according to the U.S. National Archives. Submit Questions for Obama and Romney to Possibly Answer During Next Presidential Debate

If you have a question for the candidates, submit it in the comments section below and it could be asked during the televised Oct. 16 Town Hall Presidential Debate.

If this past Wednesday’s presidential debate left you with more questions than answers, here’s your chance for the presidential candidates to address the issues that most matter to you. The next presidential debate will be a town hall meeting format at Hofstra University in Long Island, where voters will ask President Obama and Mitt Romney about domestic and foreign policy. Local Democrats to Elect National Convention Delegates

One of three delegate trainings will be held in Bishop later this month.

The following is a news release from the Oconee County Democratic Committee: Democrats all over Georgia have begun the process of selecting delegates to the Democratic National Convention which will be held September 3-6, 2012. Of the 124 delegates from Georgia , the 10th Congressional District will send five - three men and two women. “It’s going to be an incredibly exciting four days just up the road in Charlotte, NC, ending with President Obama’s acceptance speech,” said Patsy Harris, chairman of the 10th Congressional District for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We welcome all Democrats to take this opportunity of representing the district in September.” Each candidate for convention delegate must be at least 17½ years old, a …

Straw Poll Shows Oconee County GOP Favors Cain

The Oconee County Republican Party held a Presidential Straw Poll during a fundraiser on Nov. 6

At its "Remember Next November: Spread the Red" Fall Fundraiser on Nov. 6 at Harris Shoals Park, the Oconee County Republican Party held a Presidential Straw Poll, according to a news release from Jan Hanley, chairman of the party.  Results of the poll are as follows: Herman Cain: 35% Newt Gingrich: 28% Mitt Romney: 18% Rick Perry: 17% Gary Johnson: 1% Undecided: 1% Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Buddy Roemer and Rick Santorum were also on the ballot, but received no votes, the news release stated. Cain has surged to the top in many national polls recently and remains a top-tier candidate despite allegations of sexual harassment.
