Oconee Chamber of Commerce President Resigns

J.R. Whitfield intends to pursue a new business venture, and the Chamber will begin a search for his successor immediately, according to a news release.

After serving three and a half years as president of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce,  J.R. Whitfield has tendered his resignation, effective Nov. 16, the Chamber announced in a news release Tuesday. Whitfield plans to pursue a new business venture. Chamber Chairman Mack Guest said he is disappointed to see Whitfield go, but certainly understands the allure of a great opportunity.  “I speak for the executive board, full board and all of the Oconee Chamber members when I say that we wish J.R. all the best,” Guest said in a released statement.  Chamber membership more than doubled to 450 members under Whitfield's leadership,  and the Chamber’s three main annual events-- the Fall Festival, Business Expo, and Golf Tournament --have grown…

The new business is located in the Langford Business Park.

After spending much of his career working in an east Athens State Farm office, Dana Kerr says he's excited to be offering insurance products to a new market in Oconee County. Kerr and his team sell auto, home, life, and health insurance and can assist with banking needs. "We offer, what I believe, are the best policies you can buy, the best service from myself and my team -- supported by the company in an outstanding way -- and then obviously we try to offer at a competitive price," Kerr said. Athens Ford Displays ATHICA Artwork, Launches Scholarship Contest

The Oconee County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the dealership's new ownership with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 18, 2012.

Ambassadors with the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce recently toured Athens Ford dealership on Atlanta Highway while attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its new ownership. Jade Valdes, who handles public relations, explained that Artwork from ATHICA is currently on display inside. In an effort to seek out new ways to support the arts as well as athletics, Valdes said Athens Ford has launched a scholarship contest through its Facebook page that will award three art students.  Winners will be announced on Dec. 1, 2012. HealthSource of Oconee to Undergo Renovations to Accommodate Growth

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the chiropractic office in the Windridge Professional Park on Mars Hill Road on Aug. 14, 2012.

The Oconee County Chamber of Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 14 held a ribbon-cutting for HealthSource of Oconee Chiropractic and Progressive Rehab, located at 1592 Mars Hill Road Suite B in Watkinsville, Ga. Dr. Jeanette Osgoodby started the business as a part-time practice in 2002. It was housed at two other locations before moving into its current office about a year ago. Two years ago, she married Dr. Glenn Osgoodby, who had practiced for 20 years in New Jersey and also worked in Cumming, Ga. The couple now practice full time in Oconee County, offering "complete chiropractic care including treatment for back pain, neck pain, lower back pain, and headaches," according to the HealthSource of Oconee Facebook page.  Dr. Glenn Osgoodby said …

Over 500 School Supply Items Collected During Drive

Ellis Pain Center also donated $1,000 to each elementary school in Oconee County.

Over the past two weeks, more than 500 school supplies were collected during a drive organized by the Ellis Pain Center in coordination with the Oconee Enterprise and the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce.  The three businesses served as drop-off locations during the drive, which began on July 20 and wrapped up on Monday. Paper, pens, pencils, rulers, crayons, glue and even backpacks were among the donations. "We just wanted to give back to the schools," said Ashley Roten of Ellis Pain Center. "We know that some families unfortunately cannot afford to get school supplies, so we wanted to help out as best as we can." Roten said Ellis Pain Center hopes to turn the school supply drive into an annual service project. Ellis Pain Center also …
