Oconee Man Charged with Child Molestation

A 6-year-old girl was allegedly fondled while at the man's home, authorities say. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A 31-year-old Oconee County man surrendered himself to the jail Thursday after learning about a warrant for his arrest on a charge of child molestation. Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Joshua Ray Silvers of Lee Circle is accused of touching a 6-year-old girl at his home earlier this year. Silvers knew the victim, he said. Silvers has been charged with one count, though investigators are working with the District Attorney's office to determine where two additional alleged incidents took place and more charges may be filed, Berry said. The molestation accusations were first reported to the Department of Family and Children Services, he said, and the Sheriff's Office got involved around Easter.
