An Oconee County grand jury has handed down a 21-count indictment against John David Cooper.
An information technology manager with the Georgia Department of Labor who authorities say fondled a girl under the age of 16 faces formal charges. An Oconee County grand jury has handed down a 21-count indictment against John David Cooper, 44, of Stonebridge Circle that includes four counts of child molestation and 17 counts of sexual exploitation of children. The indictment was filed with the Oconee County Clerk of Superior Court on April 16. The indictment alleges the abuse occurred sometime between May 2007 and May 2010. Cooper is also accused of possessing 17 digital, sexual images of a female under the age of 18. A second person has been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into a human trafficking case involving a young girl in Oconee County, according to the Sheriff's Office. Seventeen-year-old Salvador Martinez of Epps Bridge Road was booked into the Oconee County Jail on Friday on charges of child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. Martinez is a student at North Oconee High School, according to his Facebook profile. Martizez is accused of paying the 13-year-old victim $20 for sexual activity, a news release says, and the victim was then allegedly forced to turn the money over to Tyler Kaahlil Standifur. The Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that John David Cooper, 44, is facing 34 counts of sexual exploitation of children along with the original charges of child molestation, sexual battery against a child, and electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. A 38-year old Watkinsville man is facing additional charges of child molestation and sexual battery after a second alleged victim reported abuse, according to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon. Kenneth Troy Cobb was arrested again on Friday at River Oaks apartments on Will Hunter Road in Athens where he works as a maintenance man, O'Dillon said. On Jan. 17, Cobb was arrested at the same location on a warrant that alleges molestation of a 12-year-old girl occurred between Nov. 1, 2011, and Jan. 13, 2013. He was later released on a $25,000 bond. After that arrest became public, police learned of another alleged victim, O'Dillon said in a news release. An arrest warrant was issued at River Oaks Apartments in Athens where the man was performing maintenance for his employer, Greenleaf Management, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said. The warrant alleges the molestation occurred between Nov. 1, 2011, and Jan. 13, 2013, in Watkinsville. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of child molestation. The alleged incident occurred sometime between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31 in 2009 at an Oconee County residence. It was reported to the Sheriff's Office Wednesday by the victim's caretaker. Sheriff Scott Berry said the victim no longer resides in Oconee County. Additional details aren't being released at this time, he said.

A 31-year-old Oconee County man surrendered himself to the jail Thursday after learning about a warrant for his arrest on a charge of child molestation. Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Joshua Ray Silvers of Lee Circle is accused of touching a 6-year-old girl at his home earlier this year. Silvers knew the victim, he said. Silvers has been charged with one count, though investigators are working with the District Attorney's office to determine where two additional alleged incidents took place and more charges may be filed, Berry said. The molestation accusations were first reported to the Department of Family and Children Services, he said, and the Sheriff's Office got involved around Easter.

A 17-year-old old Dacula man has been charged with molesting a pre-teen girl while in Oconee County. Records show Samuel Crawford McAllister was booked into the Oconee County Jail on May 10 on one count of child molestation and released on a $30,000 bond the following day. Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said investigators worked closely on the case with the Gwinnett County Police Department, where initial reports were filed, and learned multiple incidents of molestation allegedly occurred at an undisclosed location in Oconee County over the last year.
