Oconee County Sheriff's deputies over the weekend charged a 17-year-old with the aggravated battery of a another teen. The 16-year-old male victim had allegedly been hit in the face at a Jones Road address late Saturday night, according to the victim's mother who contacted authorities. The teen had to be treated at a hospital but details about the type of injuries sustained were not being released pending an investigation, Chief Deputy Lee Weems said. Weems noted that "aggravated battery entails the loss of a body part or disfigurement." While interviewing a group of teens and young men later at the Jones Road residence, deputies say they noticed "a very strong odor of alcohol coming from them." The 22-year-old handyman accused in the Thursday night assault on his client, a 73-year-old Oconee County woman, is facing new charges. Jacob Potter Wagner was taken into custody Friday on one count of aggravated battery. On Monday, deputies secured additional warrants charging him with aggravated assault and two counts of burglary, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. The Walton County Sheriff's Office also placed a probation hold on Wagner, who remains in the Oconee County Jail. Meantime, victim Judith Gilvey continues to improve. Authorities say the 73-year-old victim is in the intensive care unit at Athens Regional Medical Center after being struck repeatedly with a blunt object while she was in bed at her Peacock Drive home Thursday night.
A 22-year-old man is behind bars in the Oconee County Jail, accused of beating a 73-year-old woman with a blunt object late Thursday night while she was in bed at her home on Peacock Drive. The victim called 911 shortly after midnight Friday requesting medical assistance, but didn't mention an attack, according to Chief Deputy Lee Weems. However, when medics arrived and saw the woman's injuries, they immediately contacted the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, he said. Details about how the man entered the home and the object used to harm the woman are not yet being disclosed, but Weems said the woman sustained multiple injuries to her head and face. She was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center and is currently in the intensive care unit. …
