According to the school system's career website, "The candidate must have experience as a wrestling coach at the high school level, be knowledgeable and possess organizational and leadership skills to develop all aspects of our wrestling program. Applicants must have a current clear renewable Georgia certificate in English, Science or Social Studies." How to apply: Build a profile and submit an application, cover letter and resume online. Oconee County High School just had its best state wrestling performance ever.
Wrestlers from Oconee County High School just finished third in the class AAA state duals last weekend -- the school's best finish ever. But come 2020, Oconee's high school wrestlers won't have the world's foremost competetive arena to aspire to. The International Olympic Committee announced this week that it's removing the sport from the Summer Games, starting in 2020. The committee agreed to pare down the 26 sports it features to 25 so that a new sport could join the lineup. Wrestling has a chance to make it back into the Olympics, but the Los Angeles Times said that was unlikely now that it has been cut. Should the Olympics drop wrestling as an event? The OCHS wrestling team beat Lumpkin County High School at the 8-AAA area duals held at Oconee County High School.
The Oconee County Warriors paved their way through Monroe and North Hall to face off against Lumpkin County High School in the Area 8 division AAA championship on Saturday. After eleven matches with the Indians, Oconee County was declared the winner and inherited the area champion title. The Warriors went into the two-day tournament with an 89.7 % win record. On Friday, the first day of the tournament, Oconee dominated their match against Monroe Area High School and only gave up three losses, earning them a spot in the semi-finals. Oconee County started Saturday off early with a seemingly effortless win against North Hall. This sent OCHS to the championships later in the day where Lumpkin County was waiting for them. A lot of …

North Oconee Senior Tim Abbot placed second in his weight class in the George Thompson Memorial wrestling tournament on Wednesday.
Nineteen schools competed in the two-day George Thompson Memorial wrestling tournament, hosted by Winder-Barrow High School. North Oconee fielded six athletes, one of whom, Tim Abbott, placed second in the 145-pound weight class. Each day of the two-day tournament lasted nearly 10 hours and was exhausting for both athletes and coaches. Abbott, a senior at North Oconee, displayed a strong performance throughout the tournament, which landed him in the 145-class championship match against Athens Christian. The championship match was tight, with each athlete showing substantial control and technique. Abbott tied the match at 2-2, but a late surge by the wrestler from Athens Christian garnered two points, ending the match at time with a …
