Westminster Christian Academy Seniors Preparing for Annual Mission Trip to Jamaica

The trip in March will be the third for the school.

A dozen seniors from Westminster Christian Academy are preparing to head to Jamaica next month for a mission trip. According to the school's website, it's the third year in a row WCA has participated in the week-long program coordinated by former Westminster parent Pastor Hugo Bryan-Porter and Pastor Fitzroy Kerr, lead pastor of Praise Deliverance Ministries in Kingston, Jamaica. The trip will "involve ministering to several children’s orphanages, elderly homes, churches, a local boys’ home, a school for the deaf, and street ministries," the website states. Eighteen To Graduate From Westminster Christian Academy

All of the Class of 2012 graduates have been accepted to college.

  Westminster Christian Academy's Class of 2012 will don their caps and gowns for commencement at 7 p.m. at Grace Fellowship on Friday, May 18.  A reception will follow immediately follow the ceremony. The school reports all 18 graduates have are headed to one of thirteen colleges and universities. Armistead Named New Headmaster of Westminster Christian Academy

James Armistead will begin his duties as head of school on July 1, 2012.

Westminster Christian Academy has announced the hire of James Armistead as the new head of school. According to a news release on the school's website, "Armistead was carefully and prayerfully selected out of dozens of candidates from a nationwide search." His experience includes a tenure as the headmaster of Trinity Christian Academy in Lexington, Kentucky. During his career that expands decades, he has also worked as a principal, teacher and high school registrar. Sports Fields at Westminster Christian Academy Reported Damaged

An all-terrain vehicle may be to blame, according to a report at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

A steel gate and soccer and baseball fields on the campus of Westminster Christian Academy were damaged last week, likely by an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), according to a report on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. A deputy was dispatched to the school on Saturday morning. Sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 and 9 a.m. on Feb. 25 someone had damaged the gate that prohibits vehicles from entering the fields.  There were tracks and damaged areas of grass that appeared to be caused by an ATV, the deputy noted.  The damage was estimated at less than $500. It was the second time in two months that the school reported an incident of vandalism. On New Year's Eve day, the school's two unlocked buses were found to have been sprayed …

Westminster Christian Collects Over 1,300 Canned Food Items for ACTS

The girls volleyball team held a school-wide canned food drive in early October.

In an effort to stock the Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS) Food Bank, the Westminster Christian Academy girls volleyball team held a canned food drive on Oct. 7. ACTS leaders told The Oconee Enterprise at the end of September that the Food Bank has been experiencing a shortage at a time when more Oconee County families are in need of its services. According to the school's website, the team was able to deliver 1,352 cans of food to ACTS. Team members also volunteered their time to gather boxes of food for needy families, the website noted. On Oct. 29, Boy Scout Troop 149 held a food drive for ACTS at Butler's Crossing Shopping Center.

Westminster Christian Applauded for Blood Drive Participation

The American Red Cross recently declared that the school had the highest number of blood donations in Georgia based on a percentage of the total student population for the 2010-11 school year.

Based on a percentage of the total student population for the 2010-11 school year, Westminster Christian Academy has been named the top Georgia school in school-sponsored blood drive participation, according to a news release. Westminster Christian led with 226 percent participation.  The American Red Cross made the announcement in June, the school's website stated. Recent graduate Callie Jo Fowler was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Red Cross in honor of the school's accomplishment.
