Second Suspect Charged with Burglary of Watkinsville Home

Police say they found the woman inside when they went to check on the residence Wednesday. An arrest isn't a conviction.

A 26-year-old Watkinsville woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police say they found her inside of a Cedar Drive duplex when they arrived to conduct a burglary investigation. Officers checked on the residence following the arrest of a 30-year-old Colbert man during a traffic stop on New High Shoals Road that morning.  Aaron Tyler Poss had been driving a truck that didn't belong to him, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said. According to O'Dillon, officers located the registered owner of the truck , who is currently being housed in the Madison County Jail.  The victim told police that no one should be driving his truck or in possession of his credit cards or any other property belonging to him. Watkinsville Police Charge Man with Burglary and Theft Following Traffic Stop

The suspect was found driving a stolen pickup truck after allegedly having taken the vehicle's keys from inside of a Cedar Drive residence earlier in the day, police say. An arrest isn't a conviction.

Police say a 30-year-old man entered a Watkinsville home Wednesday, took keys to a truck and some credit cards, and drove off in the vehicle. Responding to reports of a possible impaired driver, officers pulled the suspect over on New High Shoals Road near Bishop's Vineyard subdivision around 11:15 a.m., Police Chief Lee O'Dillon explained.  The man was unable to answer questions about the truck's owner, he said, and further investigation led police to a duplex on Cedar Drive where it was discovered some items had been taken from the residence. Officers charged Aaron Tyler Poss with burglary in the first degree and theft by receiving stolen property, but no traffic-related offenses and police said he wasn't impaired. "We knew he went in […

Watkinsville Police Investigate Attempted Break-in

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

A Harden Hill Road resident returned home from work last Wednesday, May 1, to find that someone had broken a window on the garage door. According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the intruder may have attempted to reach inside and unlock the door but it was secured with a double cylinder dead bolt lock. The burglar didn't get inside and nothing outside seemed to be missing, he said. Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between April 29 - May 5, 2013. Barrow County Man Accused of Stealing from 90-year-old Watkinsville Veteran

Police say 47-year-old Paul Kevin Harris of Statham was paid nearly $28,000 by the victim over the course of less than one year for landscaping services that weren't performed. An arrest isn't a conviction.

Watkinsville police with the assistance of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Monday arrested a Statham man who allegedly bilked $28,000 out of a 90-year-old military veteran from Watkinsville in less than one year under the guise of providing landscaping services. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon says the Western Judicial Circuit's District Attorney's Office helped with the investigation, which was launched in early April after the victim's family members examined his bank account records. The victim had written 38 checks to Paul Kevin Harris, ranging in amounts of $25-$1,200 each, he explained. The lawn work was never performed, O'Dillon said, but Harris kept returning to the elderly man demanding more money. The victim told police that he …

Rock Damages Trunk on Lexus

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Watkinsville police on April 17 around 7 p.m. were called to a Colham Ferry Extension address after the owner of a 2007 Lexus noticed that her car was damaged. It appears that a rock had struck the trunk lid, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon.  The car had been parked in the driveway all day and the owner stated that she did not know who would have damaged her car. In other police news, a 2010 Ford 4-S and a 1998 Ford Ranger were involved in a mishap in the Watkinsville Post Office parking lot on Friday, April 19, at 2:33 p.m. No one was injured but the passenger car suffered significant damage. GBI Searches Watkinsville Home in Connection with Child Porn Investigation

The search Wednesday morning at a VFW Drive residence was part of “Operation Guarding Innocence,” an ongoing investigation into the distribution of child pornography over the Internet.

Watkinsville Police assisted agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation this morning as a search warrant was issued at a residence on VFW Drive. Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said the search was part of a months-long investigation into the distribution of child pornography over the Internet. "Basically they're just gathering evidence at this point to determine if there's enough evidence to charge anybody, make an arrest," he said. At least one computer was seized from the home, he said, which the GBI will analyze. "It will be up to the GBI whether anyone is charged today.  The normal protocol for that is they will examine the evidence and then either take a warrant or present the evidence to a grand jury," O'Dillon explained.  "It's kind of…

School Bus Involved in Fender Bender Last Week, No Injuries Reported

Watkinsville police say an 80-year-old woman was cited after she allegedly backed into the bus on Jeremy Drive.

No one was injured when a 2013 Toyota Corolla backed into the side of an Oconee County School bus last week as it was driving by on Jeremy Drive.week.  According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. An 80-year-old Jeremy Drive resident was charged with improper backing, he said. Tractor Trailer Strikes Railroad Crossing Mast

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

A 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig struck and destroyed the railroad crossing mast and warning lights on Ga. Highway 15 at the railroad crossing around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2. According to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's news release, the truck had attempted to make a sharp right turn from McRee Street onto Ga. Highway 15 southward. No one was injured but a large amount of damage was done and traffic was disrupted until a Hartwell Railroad repair crew could arrive from Social Circle.   A 53-year-old man from Branford, Florida was charged with a no through trucks violation. Small Fire Set Outside Watkinsville Convenience Store, Two Charged

Police have charged a Watkinsville man and another from Winder with reckless conduct. Charges aren't convictions.

Watkinsville police on Thursday charged two men in connection with the setting of a small fire outside of a local convenience store at the end of March. According to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, the clerk on duty at Golden Pantry on Greensboro Highway said he saw two men standing in front of the store and noticed what he thought was cigarette smoke. But, after the men left, the clerk told officers he could still see the smoke so he went outside to investigate. Someone had poured a flammable liquid onto some articles of clothing and set it on fire, O'Dillon said. The fire burned itself out but it had been set near stacked firewood, propane fuel tanks, and gasoline pumps, he explained. …
