Mike Huff Takes Place on Watkinsville Council

His first meeting was Wednesday, and his first vote was to approve a business license request for a new downtown eatery.

A new member joined Watkinsville council this week. Mike Huff was sworn in by Probate Court Judge David Anglin Wednesday, beginning a two-year term that will end on Dec. 31, 2014. Huff was the only candidate to qualify for Samantha Purcell's Post 4 seat after she announced last fall she wouldn't seek re-election. After a little housekeeping, the first order of business was to review a business license request for European Cousine LLC, which will be located at 10D Barnett Shoals Road.  Owner and Watkinsville resident Evey Renoir said she has a passion for food and wants to introduce new, healthy options that will compliment offerings from other local restaurants. Connie Massey Wins Watkinsville Council Seat

According to unofficial results, Massey beat Nicole Brooks by 66 votes in the Nov. 6 Special Election.

Connie Massey has won her bid for Watkinsville council Post 2, according to unofficial results* provided by city election supervisor Julie Sanders. Massey, a picture framer, garnered 224 votes to jailer Nichole Brooks' 158.  Of the 1,875 registered Watkinsville voters, 20 percent cast ballots in the city's election.  Of that, roughly eight percent voted in advance. Massey will fill the seat formerly held by Henry Norman, who resigned in September when he moved outside of the city limits.  She'll be sworn in immediately to serve out the remainder of the term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2013.
