The Oconee County Lady Warrior and Warrior tennis teams picked up key region wins Thursday, as both got tough-fought wins on the road in Gainesville. The wins completed a sweep of the Red Elephants for the second time this season. The Lady Warriors and Warriors also boosted their region records to an identical 10-0, with two key region matches remaining. OCHS closes regular season region play next week with a critical match against a very talented West Hall team on Monday, before hosting their final regular season region match on Tuesday against Monroe Area. The Oconee County High School Warrior Marching Band closed competition season last weekend with another set of straight "superior" marks. According to the OCHS Band Blog, the band placed third in class 3A at the Georgia Invitational Band Championship held at Hiram High School on Saturday, Oct. 22. The best overall Drum Major trophy was awarded to Erin McCollum, the blog post noted. The Warrior Marching Band also earned superior ratings and placed third at the Georgia Contest of Champions on Oct. 8 at East Jackson High School. Great job, Warriors!

Coach Mitch Olson is confident the Warriors are getting closer to reaching their potential.
Despite a 3-7 record and six straight losing seasons, Oconee County Warriors head football coach Mitch Olson is optimistic about next year. Oconee County High has claimed only three winning seasons since gaining the Class AAA state championship title in 1999. But the team Olson inherited in 2008 is starting to "buy in" to his vision of the program, he said in an interview with Patch. "The underclassmen have really stood up and begun to take charge," he said. "They're getting there." When Olson took the helm two years ago, he was the school's fourth coach in as many years.
