UNG Students Treated to Day of Rejuvenation

Just in time for final exams local businesses introduced students at the Oconee campus to acupuncture and massage therapy during a holistic health fair.

University of North Georgia students at a holistic health fair last week were given the chance to de-stress ahead of finals. UNG personal counselor and wellness specialist Justin Earnest said the event also doubled as an opportunity to raise awareness about the counseling services available to students, which are free and confidential. Reddy Medical Center offered body fat composition testing, St. Mary's Hospital provided blood pressure checks, and 5 Points Acupuncture demonstrated acupuncture therapy.  Students lined up for chair massages by Kimberly Morgan Massage and experimented with yoga and Tai Chi.   A nutritionist shared advice and representatives of Earth Fare distributed information about how to develop healthy eating habits. University of North Georgia Made Official with Regents' Final Approval

A celebration of the consolidation of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State College will be held in Oconee County and at each of the three other campuses Thursday.

The merger of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State College was made official Tuesday by a vote of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. The University of North Georgia is one of four newly created institutions resulting from consolidations recommended in 2011 by University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby with the goal of increasing college completion rates, broadening access to public higher education and maintaining affordability. Dr. Bonita Jacobs has been appointed president of the University of North Georgia. Regents Approve Name for New Institution Created By GSU and NGCSU Merger

The new institution's mission statement has also been approved.

University of North Georgia has been selected by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents as the name for the new institution created by the merger of Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University. The name changes were the result of work on the four campuses to solicit suggestions and feedback from faculty, staff, students, alumni and the local community. The campus implementation teams then analyzed and tabulated the feedback to determine the recommended names that should be submitted to the regents for approval, according to Shelley Nickel, associate vice chancellor for Planning and Implementation. Actually, my son graduated high school with a 3.86 and is attending Gainesville so he can continue running his own busness near by. I would put him up against any student from NGCSU...any day!
