UGA's Adams Getting an Office in the Richard Russell Special Collections Library

Jere Morehead will become the University of Georgia president on July 1, 2013.

When he steps down from the UGA Presidency on June 30, Michael Adams will move his office from Jackson to Hull street. Instead of the Administration Building, he will be in the Richard Russell Special Collections Library Building. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the university will spend less than $25,000 to convert a third-floor classroom into an office for Adams. Who uses the classroom now? The newspaper says freshmen Odyssey classes and others looking at archival materials or learning to use archival materials.

Georgia Football vs. Nebraska: It's a New Year's Day Bowl, Baby!

Will the Bulldogs start 2013 with a win at the Capital One Bowl?

The Georgia Bulldogs were scheduled to hit Orlando last Wednesday to begin prepping in earnest for their New Year's Day Capital One Bowl matchup against the Big Ten's Nebraska. Coming off a heartbreaking SEC championship loss in which a few yards made the difference between playing for the national title and being passed over for a BCS berth, the Dawgs are looking to close out the 2012 season on a triumphant note. Some analysts think that's likely. "With the way that the Bulldogs left Atlanta, they are looking for redemption and there is not much that the Cornhuskers can do to stop it from being achieved," Ian Berg writes for Bleacher Report. Nebraska was shucked by the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten title game, 70-31, leading Berg to …

Watch out for Fake SEC Championship Tickets

The SEC, Alabama and the University of Georgia are warning fans to beware of counterfeit tickets to Saturday's sold-out SEC title game.

If somebody's trying to sell you a ticket to Saturday's SEC Championship game between Georgia and Alabama, take a close look. It had better have two strips of SEC holographic foil at the top, and more foil on the championship logo in the middle. You ought to be able to see the SEC logo and name in the foil as you move the ticket around in your hand. If you can't, walk away. WRBL News reports that the SEC and the title-seeking teams are worried fans eager to get into the sold-out game might be scammed by counterfeiters. “It’s important to pay close attention to the details of the ticket, especially the holographic foil,” David Knight, director of championship ticket operations, said in a news release posted on the station's site. Are you …

UGA Finds Land in Greene and Oconee Counties for new Plant Sciences Farm

The Iron Horse will watch the land change hands.

You could soon call it The Horse that Owns Itself. The University of Georgia hopes to buy almost 660 acres--mostly in Greene, with a tad in south Oconee county--from the Curtis Family, where Abbott Pattison’s metal sculpture of a horse has been safely out to pasture since the mid-1950s. The “almost” is because the university isn’t planning to buy the land on which the horse stands, said Bob Shulstad, associate dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. UGA is even providing an easement to the property, he added. The Iron Horse will continue surveying the surrounding fields in perpetuity. The university is buying the land so that scientists have a place to do crop research, said Shulstad. They will use the property …

UGA Personnel Records Hacked in Athens, Ga.

Hackers had access to Social Securitiy numbers and names of current and past employees.

Hope that you don't get an email or a letter from UGA soon. The school is notifying about 8,500 employees, both current and former ones, that their personal records may have been hacked. According to a university press release, officials are investigating "a criminal act of computer trespass” by an intruder, according to UGA Vice President for Information Technology Timothy Chester. The initial hacking may have happened as early as Sept. 28. The investigation began Oct. 1 after officials learned that someone reset the MyID passwords of two UGA employees, both of whom work in sensitive information technology positions. The hackers then used those accounts to gain access to personnel data. “This appears to us to be a planned intrusion by …

UGA Game Ball to Pass Through Campus of Prince Avenue Christian School

Prince Avenue Christian School Head Football Coach Mark Farriba and more than a dozen team members will escort the game ball on a leg of its trip to the UGA-Buffalo Season Opener in Athens, Ga. Saturday.

There’s excitement in the air for those football fans who bleed red, real red - UGA red that is. The first University of Georgia football game of the 2012 season kicks off against Buffalo early Saturday afternoon - and the game ball is on its way. In the tradition of an Olympic event, of sorts, the ball left from the Shepherd’s Center in Atlanta in a walking tour set to arrive at Sanford Stadium for the big game. The good news for UGA fans from the local area – it is scheduled to pass through Stone Mountain, Loganville, Snellville, Monroe, Oconee County and the streets of Athens en route to the big game. "The Game Ball Relay is a great opportunity for the Bulldog Nation to connect with and celebrate the excitement of a new season of …

Is Oconee County Home to the World's Biggest Bulldog?

Waffle House thinks this mural might at least be the biggest in Georgia. What's your favorite Uga rendering?

A group of UGA art students recently finished painting this 13-foot mural on the Waffle House on Epps Bridge Parkway. Waffle House officials think it's the biggest rendering of the University of Georgia Bulldogs mascot, Uga, in Athens, and maybe the state. Do you know of a bigger Uga reproduction? Do you have a favorite? Post your photo here!
