Rock Damages Trunk on Lexus

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Watkinsville police on April 17 around 7 p.m. were called to a Colham Ferry Extension address after the owner of a 2007 Lexus noticed that her car was damaged. It appears that a rock had struck the trunk lid, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon.  The car had been parked in the driveway all day and the owner stated that she did not know who would have damaged her car. In other police news, a 2010 Ford 4-S and a 1998 Ford Ranger were involved in a mishap in the Watkinsville Post Office parking lot on Friday, April 19, at 2:33 p.m. No one was injured but the passenger car suffered significant damage. No One Injured When Mustang Left Road During Heavy Rain Shower

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

A 2000 Ford Mustang left the roadway Sunday at 7:45 p.m. during a heavy rain shower before coming to rest in the ditch off VFW Drive near Mimosa Drive, according to Watkinsville Police. The driver was not injured and the car only suffered minor damage. In a news release, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon also noted the following incidents: Watkinsville police responded to a total of 28 calls within city limits between Dec. 10- 16, 2012. Police Respond to Three Car Accidents in Same Day Near Watkinsville Post Office

19 Die in Georgia Traffic Accidents over the Thanksgiving Holiday

Speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt were factors in almost all of the fatal crashes.

  The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended at midnight with 19 traffic fatalities across the state. The Georgia State Patrol investigated 11 of the 19 fatal crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight Sunday. The 19 traffic fatalities amount to one more than in 2011. Almost all of the fatal crashes involved either speed, alcohol or the victim failing to use a seat belt. State troopers investigated a total of 622 traffic crashes during the period that resulted in 263 injuries. Of the 11 traffic deaths investigated by troopers, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in 4 of the crashes, and 7 of the victims were not using seat belts. Update: Woman Dies After Being Struck by Car on Union Church Road

According to reports, the victim had crossed the road to check the mailbox when the accident occurred. The Georgia State Patrol said Thursday no charges will be filed.

Updated 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 A 58-year-old Watkinsville woman was struck by a car Wednesday evening and later pronounced dead at an area hospital, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.  The Oconee County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as Lynda Kelley. The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of Union Church and Evans roads, according to a Nixle alert sent by the Sheriff's Office. "It appears that she had crossed the road to get her mail and was struck while crossing back over the roadway. The investigation is ongoing," the Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook. Accident with Injuries Slows Traffic at Epps Bridge, Loop

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said a lane was blocked Thursday evening as a result of a multiple vehicle accident on the Epps Bridge overpass over the SR 10 Loop.

GSP Reports 10 Traffic Fatalities Statewide Over the 2012 Labor Day Weekend

The number of fatalities has declined since 2010.

Ten motorists were killed on Georgia roadways over the Labor Day Weekend, according to Georgia State Patrol.  That number is down from last year, when 15 traffic fatalities were reported. In 2010, there were 19. Fatalities were reported from Cobb County Police, Gwinnett County Police, Henry County Police, GSP Douglas, GSP Toccoa, GSP Valdosta, two from GSP Cartersville, and two from GSP Madison, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety website.  Georgia State Patrol investigated a total of 373 traffic accidents, which resulted in 230 injuries.  Troopers also arrested a total of 240 people for driving under the influenced, issued 983 citations for seat belt violations and recovered six stolen vehicles, according to the news …

Strange things happen in Northeast Georgia every day.

    Here are some strange things that happened in Northeast Georgia recently: Spike the bearded dragon is missing from a Hamilton Mill home in Dacula. The family pet was apparently the only thing taken from the basement in an overnight burglary last week. Winder Police confronted a man who had entered a Save-A-Lot store and asked for an ambulance after allegedly harassing people in the parking lot. When asked why he needed medical care, the man told police, "I'm too drunk." According to Barrow Regional Medical Center officials, he was right: They declined to release him after his blood-alcohol level registered .479. Update: Fewer Labor Day Weekend Traffic Fatalities Than Last Year

Update: A child, reported as one of the fatalities, is in fact still alive. That would make only six traffic fatalities reported on Georgia roads compared to 14 for the same period last year.

Update: GSP Patrol spokesman confirms Alex Fowlin, who is 10 and not 11, did not die in the wreck as reported and is in fact alive and at Egleston.  Despite wet roads on the last day of the Labor Day weekend, the Georgia Department of Public Safety reported a significant drop in traffic fatalities on Georgia Roads over the 78-hour travel weekend. For reporting purposes, the Labor Day travel weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday and ends at midnight Monday. According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety website, there were seven fatalities reported statewide during this period. Georgia State Patrol reported 435 crashes with 225 injuries. Fewer Accidents But More Fatalities Reported In Georgia Over Memorial Day Weekend

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reported three times the number of fatalities in car accidents over the same period last year.

Although there was a significant reduction in traffic accidents reported in Georgia over the Memorial Day weekend compared to 2010, a greater number of those resulted in deaths, according to figures released by the Georgia Department of Public Safety on Tuesday. Of the 273 traffic accidents worked by Georgia State Patrol posts in the 78 hours from the official start of the Memorial Day weekend at 6 p.m. Friday until midnight Monday, there were 273 accidents resulting in 177 injuries and 12 deaths. There were 15 fatalities in the state with all agencies reporting. In 2010, there were 2,143 accidents with 945 injuries but only five fatalities.  The Georgia Department of Public Safety keeps a record of the total number of crashes, injuries …
