Update: Teen Crashes Car After Leaving North Oconee High

Authorities say the 17-year-old male student was transported to an area hospital and is expected to recover.

Updated: 9:45 a.m. April 20 A 17-year-old North Oconee High School student wrecked the 2005 Volvo he was driving after he left school Thursday afternoon. According to Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry, the one-vehicle accident happened when the driver, who was headed northbound on Rocky Branch Road, left the roadway and struck a tree.  He had been traveling alone. The teen was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries. "We expect him to do well," Berry said. Oconee County Fire and Rescue and the Georgia State Patrol also responded to the scene. Overturned Vehicle Cause of Traffic Delays

No serious injuries were reported after a vehicle overturned on the Ga-10 Loop Tuesday morning.

No one was seriously injured when a Chevrolet Equinox overturned onto the median of the Ga-10 Loop near Ga. 316 around 9:30 Tuesday morning. The vehicle had been traveling eastbound, according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald. One adult and two children were inside. There were some lane closures for about an hour while emergency personnel responded and authorities cleared the scene, Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said. The Georgia State Patrol was investigating the accident.

Two Killed in Traffic Accident

The Wednesday morning accident blocked part of Highway 316 near Jimmy Daniel Road. As of 11:40 a.m., the road was open to traffic.

Authorities have confirmed two fatalities resulting from a traffic accident at Georgia Highway 316 near Jimmy Daniel Road. The accident involving a sport utility vehicle and passenger car occurred around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. To responding deputies, it appears that the driver of the SUV ran a red light, hitting the passenger car and that both people killed were inside of the passenger car, Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said. Two were transported to the hospital as a result of the collision and one driver was cited with following too closely, police said.

5 Injured in 5-Car Accident

Mars Hill Road between Cliff Dawson Road and Rankin Road was closed shortly after 6 p.m. as a result of the collision.

Five people were being treated for injuries following a traffic accident involving five vehicles on Mars Hill Road around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities reported. Mars Hill Road between Cliff Dawson and Rankin Road was shut down as the accident was being cleared, Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said. The Georgia State Patrol was on the scene investigating, first responders from the Oconee County Fire Department assisted the injured and Sheriff's deputies were controlling traffic in the area, Weems said.  By 6:30 p.m., four people had already been transported to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment, he added.  One additional person was treated at the scene, Weems said.
