For allegedly stabbing a man known to him, a 55-year-old Oconee County man faces a charge of aggravated assault. According to an incident report, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were called to Pinewood Estates South mobile home park on Epps Bridge Road around 1:30 a.m. on July 28 where a man in his 50s had reportedly been stabbed by a man he knew. The victim was transported by EMS to an area hospital with one non-life threatening stab wound to the abdomen, Sheriff Scott Berry said. Deputies met with Billy Joe Furr who admitted to having had an argument with the injured man. He said he had been punched in the stomach and was only defending himself; he did not admit to stabbing the victim. Deputies searched Furr and found a folding knife …

An Athens man was stabbed in the hand and shoulder during an altercation around 9:15 p.m Tuesday near the Arbor Express convenience store on Old Macon Highway, authorities reported. The fight broke out on private property along the bank on the Oconee side of the Oconee River, said Lee Weems, chief deputy of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, in an email.
