Black Friday 2012 Deals Begin on Thanksgiving Day at Walmart and Target

Here's the scoop on the special hours and the kind of specials you can expect to see.

If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: area big-box retailers are gearing up to dazzle bargain hunters even earlier this year—starting Thanksgiving Day. Walmart announced that it would open its doors at 8 p.m. on that Thursday, Nov. 22 and offer holiday doorbusters, while supplies last. These include deals on TVs, iPads, an electric scooter for $79 and a steam mop for $39. But its not alone. Target and Best Buy are planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. Target's deals begin an hour later, at 9 p.m. According to an ad leaked online, the best deals will be for a Nook, TVs, a Nikon camera and an XBOX 360 Kinect bundle. Special Freebies for Veterans on Veterans Day 2012

A number of restaurants with locations locally are offering free food to those who've served our country.

This Veterans Day, a number of local restaurants are once again giving away free meals to our nation's bravest. We've compiled a list of places with local restaurants that offer specials for Veterans. While Veterans Day is officially on Sunday, November 11th it is being observed on Monday, November 12th. Each restaurant's participation may vary. An Oconee Taste of the Holidays

Find festive, delicious holiday treats at Oconee restaurants and sweet shops.

During the busy holiday season, many Oconee County restaurants are seeing an increase in sales as shoppers stop for lunch between purchases or meet to exchange gifts with friends. Oconee Patch caught up with a few local chefs and restaurant owners to ask about seasonal specials, their favorite holiday dishes and tips on cooking for the holidays. The Granary in downtown Watkinsville, open since March 2009, offers special Christmas "Chocolate Chunk Bread" throughout the holiday season. The Granary is a bakery and country store.
