The donation, made Wednesday, will allow the school to move forward with plans to construct a new field house starting in January.
Prince Avenue Christian School's football team's bid for the championship title at the Georgia Dome on Friday isn't the only big news buzzing around the school this week. School officials Wednesday were presented with a $125,000 check from Zaxby's that will go toward the school's building fund. "We saw the opportunity to help the school with their building campaign, so we wanted to put a big step forward in kicking it off," said Tony Townley, Zaxby's executive vice president. "It's going to be good for the kids. It's going to provide more room and jump start their field house." The Oconee Enterprise notes in an article about the donation that Townley has three kids who attend PACS. "Zaxby's has had a great year this year," said Townley…

According to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald, the crew has spent the past month working 16-hour days clearing water, removing debris and repairing damaged homes for clients despite facing obstacles like snow. Between clients, the crew provided service free of charge to a volunteer firefighter and different forms of charity to others, Smith told the newspaper. Team members have only recently begun rotating back to Georgia, according to the article.

"We're slugging ahead, making headway," owner says.
Though the storefront of Chandlee Jewelers remains boarded up, it was back to business Monday for owners Larry and Bryan Exum, just five days after a van crashed into the building. The shop is open for repair orders and sales, but they're not yet operating at the normal pace, Bryan said. Evidence of last Wednesday's accident that sent one customer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries remained, but the store is remarkably pieced back together. Bryan is too. She placed beads onto display shelves with a smile, though she admitted she'll likely be dealing with the post-traumatic stress for quite some time. Customers dropped by Monday to check on everyone, she said. "Every body's been very kind and understanding." Replacement …

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Oconee County and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? American Express gets the credit for founding the shopping holiday, which got its official start on Nov. 27, 2010, according to the Small Business Saturday Facebook page. Celebrating its …
