Guns Confiscated at Metro Area High School - East Cobb Patch Two unloaded guns were confiscated from two students at Wheeler High School without incident on Friday, according to Principal David Chiprany. In an e-mail message delivered over the weekend to the Wheeler community, Chiprany said a student tip led to school administrators and resource officers taking action, and that the students in possession of the weapons were taken into police custody. Fifty others are reported wounded, and a suspect is in custody.
At least 12 people are reported dead and 50 others are wounded in a shooting that broke out during a midnight showing Thursday of "The Dark Knight Rises" in suburban Denver, according to media reports. Suspect James Holmes, 24, is in custody, according to Aurora, Colo., police. Witnesses at the Century 16 movie theater said the gunman, wearing military-type fatigues and gas mask, set off a smoke bomb and then made his way through the theater, gunning people down. Bullets went through the theater wall, injuring people in the screening next door, as well. Arrest Made in the Shooting Death of Forsyth County Man – Cumming Patch Larry Martin of Cumming was recently arrested and charged with one count of murder in the death of his son-in-law Ronald E. Priester. Apparently killed by a gunshot wound, Priester’s body was found by his wife in the family home. Sheriff Ted Paxton reported that Martin lived in the basement of the home and was at the residence when deputies arrived Thursday night in response to a 911 call that someone had been shot. Martin is currently being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond. Man Critical Following Overnight Shooting at CVS in Lawrenceville -- Lawrenceville Patch There was a shooting at the CVS Pharmacy at 1187 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville overnight Sunday to Monday. Gwinnett County police report the scene was cleared by 2 a.m. Monday morning and they are actively pursuing leads in the case. A spokesman with the Gwinnett County police said the victim is a male of unknown of age. He sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his head. He was conscious when officers arrived and is now listed in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. More details will follow as they become available. Norcross Spa Shooting Leaves 5 Dead – Norcross Patch Five people were killed in what Norcross Police believe may have been a domestic-related shooting at a Buford Highway spa Tuesday night. Norcross Police said four people were found dead inside the Su Jung Health Sauna, located at 6005 Buford Highway. One victim died later at a local hospital. According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a man entered the business, opened fire on the four victims, then turned the gun on himself. The names of the victims and the alleged shooter will not be released until notification of the next of kin. The GBI is assisting in the investigation. Inmate Overdoses While Jailed in Walton County-- Loganville-Grayson Patch According to The Walton Tribune, a woman jailed in the Walton County Detention Center has committed suicide with pills hidden her vagina at the time of her arrest. Yvonne Parker, 40, of 1422 Virginia Way, Monroe, was arrested Feb. 3 during a traffic stop and was charged of possession of roxicodone with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. The Walton Tribune reports she was also facing charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate Sunday's shooting in the southern part of the county, while investigators wait to question man who was shot by his brother-in-law.
Oconee County autorities are waiting to speak to a man who was shot in the abdomen, after he reportedly tried to attack his brother-in-law with a knife in southern Oconee County. Family witnesses reported the brother-in-law, Brian Bowden, 31, acted in self-defense when he shot 32-year-old Eric Hester. On Friday, Hester was still recovering from his wounds at Athens Regional Medical Center and wasn't well enough for investigators to question him, Oconee County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Lee Weems said. "We have not been able to speak with the other individual (Hester) in the shooting," Weems said. "We have to take into account his medical condition." Andrew Mayerbach, 42, from New York held two women hostage before being shot and then turning a handgun on himself, officials said at a news conference.
Update: Two improvised explosive devices were found Friday by Barrow County Sheriff's Office during their investigation of the crime scene, Oconee County Sheriff's Office reported. University of Georgia Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal team safely detonated the devices, authorities said. A 42-year-old man originally from New York took an 18-year old woman and her mother hostage at gunpoint in a camper off Jones Road on Thursday before being shot by a deputy and then killing himself, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said in a news conference on Friday. Update: More details have been released about a shooting incident that left an Oconee man dead Thursday evening on Jones Road in northern Oconee County. In a press release early Friday, authorities said a hostage situation between a landlord and tenant turned deadly when a male suspect fatally shot himself. Deputies arrived on the scene around 5:30 p.m. to find an adult female victim who had been shot and an armed suspect pointing a weapon at them, the news release said. One deputy fired a single shot from his patrol rifle that hit the suspect, and then the suspect fatally shot himself, the press release said.
