Authorities are searching for a man they say assaulted an Athens-Clarke County police officer with a vehicle during the robbery of BP Gas Station at 4000 Lexington Road on April 18. There are active warrants in Rickie Korey "Woo" Powell's name for robbery by force, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and obstruction, police said, adding that Powell "should be considered violent and dangerous." According to a Nixle alert, Powell's last known address was Old Farmington Road in Bishop. "He is known to frequently visit Clarke County to include the areas of: Bailey Street; Epps Bridge Road; Martin Circle; Milledge Avenue; Whitehall Road; Downtown," the alert states. A second man suspected of being involved in the snatching of a tip jar from Starbucks on Epps Bridge Parkway earlier this month was booked into the Oconee County Jail on Thursday. Richard Charles Jones, 17, of Jennings Mill Parkway in Athens, is charged with robbery, according to records. Last week George Labron Houser, 20, of Club Drive in Athens, was booked on the same charge. On Feb. 11, a manager of the coffee shop reported two men in a red Jeep Liberty snatched the tip jar from the drive-thru window. Authorities estimate $20-$50 was taken. Oconee County Sheriff's investigators have made an arrest in the case of a tip jar that was snatched last week from Starbucks' drive-thru window. A manager of the store on Epps Bridge Parkway reported two men in a red Jeep Liberty were seen around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 11 when the incident occurred. Authorities estimate $20-50 was taken. George Labron Houser, 20, of Club Drive in Athens, was charged on Wednesday with robbery. Detective Chris Cannon says the incident is classified as a robbery because the money was taken in the "immediate presence" of an employee of the coffee shop by "sudden snatching," as outlined in O.C.G.A. § 16-8-40. Marietta Man Tied to NC Meth Ring – Marietta Patch A Marietta man is in a North Carolina jail in connection with the seizure of nearly half a million dollars' worth of crystal meth. Miguel Angel Hernandez, 31, of the 1000 block of Amelia Drive was one of three men arrested in Brunswick County, NC, last month in the biggest crystal meth bust ever in that county, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. Couple in Fatal Crash Identified – Canton-Sixes Patch The couple killed in a Feb. 5 accident on Knox Bridge Highway have been identified as Rick Dean Headen, 48, of Sour Lake, Texas and Charlotte Ann Sedtal, 40, also of Sour Lake. The couple were the parents of a 2-month-old infant that sustained a broken leg and brain injury in the accident. Headen, Sedtal and their baby boy were "apparently just passing through, on their way to another state," when their Ford Focus, which was headed eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a red Dodge pickup truck that was headed westbound. A 31-year-old Watkinsville woman was robbed at gunpoint Saturday in Athens while en route to take one of her son’s friends to another friend’s house around 9 p.m., the Athens Banner-Herald reports. The woman had pulled over to see if her car had a flat tire in the area of Chesterton Drive near Acadia Drive. According to an Athens-Clarke County police news release, a rear-seat passenger got out of the vehicle to check. While the car was stopped, two black males approached, police reported. One allegedly opened the passenger door and climbed inside, then pointed a pistol at the woman and demanded money.
