Retiring Oconee County Tax Commissioner Honored for Decades of Service (Video)

The Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday declaring Dec. 2, 2012 "Harriette Browning Day."

A retirement reception will be held for Harriette Browning on Dec. 2, 2012 at the Oconee County Civic Center from 3-5 p.m. All are invited to attend. Athens Academy Headmaster To Retire at End of 2012-13 School Year

Bob Chambers has served the school for three decades.

At the close of the 2012-13 school year, Bob Chambers will step down as headmaster of Athens Academy. Chambers notified the school's Board of Trustees about his decision to retire earlier this month, The Oconee Enterprise reports. A search committee is being formed to look for Chambers' replacement, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Gene Howard told the newspaper. Chief Deputy Lee Weems discusses the retirement of Deputy Mike Taylor, metal theft as a prevalent problem, and mental health.

Another Retirement Last month, I reported to you that two long-time members of your Sheriff’s Office had decided to take the county’s early retirement package.  Since I wrote that piece, Deputy Mike Taylor, known affectionately as “Pops” around the Office, has also decided to retire. Deputy Taylor has been a peace officer since 1968.  He previously retired from the Snellville Police Department where he was a Captain and served a stint as interim chief.  “Pops” is well regarded around the Office for his experience and his sense of humor.   Here, he has served in the Patrol Division and most recently in Court Services.  I have numerous great “Pops” stories that just don’t lend themselves well to written word as it would be impossible to …
