Dave Shearon already has a full life. As one of the owner/operators of Ashford Manor in Watkinsville, his days include the 24/7 operation of a beautiful historic home that has been turned into a bed and breakfast. Recently purchasing the Thornton property next to Ashford Manor, the decision to expand was made and the resulting renovations, upgrades, furniture shopping added to the day-to-day requirements defined a pretty busy day. Yet when asked to be one of the “stars” for the benefit for Project Safe, Dave immediately said “Yes!” Though he has no training in dance, doesn’t live in Athens, and doesn’t consider himself a “star,” he was pleased to be able to participate in such a big way for the cause of helping victims of domestic abuse. “…

How fun would it be to step back in time?
You can have a chance to step back in time, to the Roaring Twenties to be exact, by attending a very special event on March 24 at 9 p.m. Not only will a grand time be had by all, including specialty 20's-themed drinks and raffle items, but it's all for a great cause...a benefit for Project Safe! Admission is free, Half Dozen Brass Band is playing, and it's a chance to visit the beautiful Georgian Hotel in downtown Athens at their bar, Tapped.
Friday's event at Buffalo's was sponsored by Team 6 of Dancing with the Athens Stars 2012.
What do these words and phrases have in common? Dancing with the Athens Stars, fundraiser, Team 6, Zumba, Zumba-thon, Shearon, Bacso, Buffalo's Cafe, weight loss and great fun? About 60 dancers moved to the music under the direction of dance instructor Tania Mendoza on the dance floor of the Georgia Room at Buffalo's on Friday night. She took them through three music pieces non-stop - exercise for excess weight anywhere on the body. Suggested donation was $10 for the privilege. Dave Shearon and Elisso Bacso, make up dance Team 6 from the 10 teams organized for the 2012 Dancing with the Athens Stars benefit to be held on April 1. You know you want to break out those platform shoes and bellbottom jeans! Dancing with the Athens Stars 2012 is happening soon, April 1 to be exact, and it will be the fifth year of competition. This year the contest includes Watkinsville's own Dave Shearon, owner of Ashford Manor. He and his partner in crime, Elissa Bacso, are the members of Team 6 in this year's competition. Dave and Elissa are wasting no time with their fundraising efforts, and you can be a part of it by attending this Friday night's "I Will Survive" Disco Party! Starting at 7:30 p.m. in the big back room at Buffalo's, you'll find full beverage and menu service, disco dance lessons, a dance contest, and a costume contest. A free wellness fair at the Oconee Campus of Gainesville State College in Watkinsville open to the public will provide health screenings and wellness information to students and community members on Monday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Health professionals from Clarke and Oconee counties and the University of Georgia will provide blood pressure and body composition/fat index screenings, according to a news release. Topics that will be covered include: Representatives from the American Cancer Society, Hardison Family Chiropractic, Mind Body Institute of Athens Regional Medical Center, Project Safe, St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Care System, animal adoption/training services, and others will be on hand.
