Tom Odom Selected to Lead Oconee Chamber as Interim President

Odom, the Oconee County Board of Education Chairman-elect, replaces J.R. Whitfield, who recently tendered his resignation Tuesday.

Less than 24 hours after the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce announced J.R. Whitfield was stepping down as president to pursue a business venture, word came that the Board of Directors named veteran educator Tom Odom as a successor. A news release Wednesday stated that Odom assumes the position on an interim basis and will begin immediately for a seamless transition. “It was important to the Board that the Chamber continues its positive momentum," Chairman Mack Guest stated in the release. UGA's Michael Adams: Yes, I'm Leaving

The University of Georgia president says he's stepping down next year.

For a few seconds, it looked as though Michael Adams wasn't going to make it through a speech about his leaving the President's Office at the University of Georgia. He had said that when he accepted the job in June 1997, with him were his parents, both of whom have since died, and his wife Mary. His face collapsed a little, but he recovered. Many of those in the audience may not recover. The university community remains in shock over Adams' sudden announcement that he will step down from his job at the end of June 2013. Only a few of the inner staff and upper level administrators learned late Wednesday that he would be leaving. Deadline to Register to Vote in Georgia Primary is Today

Early voting begins on Feb. 13.

Feb. 6 is the deadline to register to vote in the Georgia Presidential Primary. The Primary is March 6, 2012. You can also register to vote online through the Georgia Secretary of State office.  To register to vote you must: In the Republican race, the following names will appear on the ballot:* * Candidates' names appear on the ballot regardless of having dropped out of the race, unless candidates formally request that their names be removed.
