The event, organized by Oconee County resident Lee Dyer, serves as a fundraiser for the Georgia Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). It's also a way for officers from different agencies to have an opportunity to mingle outside of police work. This year the event will again be held at Oconee Veterans Park.  From 3 p.m. until about 9 p.m., there will be K-9 demonstrations, live music, raffles and kids activities. Repairs to Oconee Veterans Memorial Complete

Tiles damaged by a close encounter with lightning last summer have been replaced.

"Christmas came early as our beloved [Oconee Veterans] memorial stands tall and strong again!" John Gentry, director of Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department, exclaimed in email to county officials and media before the holiday. The contractor completed re-installing the lettering and branch insignias on Dec. 21, Gentry noted.  Final cleanups wrapped up last week. Tiles were damaged last summer after lightning struck close to the Memorial, according to an article in The Oconee Enterprise.  Paragon was contracted to replace them and add a roof cap to prevent moisture from seeping inside, the newspaper reported. Oconee County Middle School Salutes Veterans

A program was held on Friday, Nov. 9, to honor military personnel, past and present.

"You students have witnessed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and you know what it's like." he said.  "There are long, long days overseas and long, long days at home." Williams, a charter member of the Oconee County Veterans Memorial Foundation, urged those in attendence to think about the military not only on days of observance. Oconee Rotary Dedicates BBQ Pavilions at Oconee Veterans Park

The dedication commemorated the organization's 30th anniversary in the county.

By Robert Taylor The Rotary Club of Oconee County recently dedicated six permanent BBQ pavilions at Oconee Veterans Park with a cookout and ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The club’s year-and-a-half-long project took more than 200 hours of volunteer labor, and commemorated the organization’s 30th anniversary in Oconee County. A mammoth-sized rock, donated by the club’s first president, Jack Curtis, marks the area which is in the back of the park.  The pavilions feature concrete bases, structured roofs, BBQ grills and trash cans, and are free for public use.
