Walmart Donates $1,000 to Oconee Food for Kids

The program currently provides weekend meals to 76 students in need.

A representative of Walmart at a meeting of the Oconee County Board of Education this week presented a $1,000 check to the Oconee Food for Kids program.  "We're just thankful that we can come and help in the communities where we work," Brock Toole said. "Hopefully it will be a long-term partnership." During the meeting, the Board also heard about the program's latest developments. A team of volunteers, which includes students from a jobs readiness class at North Oconee High School, meet weekly at Oconee County Elementary to bag weekend meals for needy schoolchildren in the county.  Fresh fruit is included every week.  Several times throughout the year, toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss are packaged along with the meals, which are designed…

Video: Colham Ferry's Power Recognized For Role As Mentor Coordinator

Recently, representatives of the Oconee Area Resource Council presented counselor Morgan Power with the first annual School Mentor Coordinator Appreciation Recognition.

For her work with eleven mentors at Colham Ferry Elementary School and her service on the Mentor Advisory Committee of the Oconee Area Resource Council, counselor Morgan Power was recognized at a January meeting of the school board. Power received the first annual School Mentor Coordinator Appreciation Recognition. The award was presented by representatives of the Oconee Area Resource Council: Patsy Grimes, mentor program coordinator, and Ann Hester, executive director.
