An Oconee County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit assisted in a foot chase early Saturday afternoon.
Updated 9:16 p.m. Oconee County Sheriff's deputies have taken into custody four suspects --three men and a woman-- they believe may be connected to a possible burglary on Virgil Langford Road. Just before noon Saturday, a Nixle alert was issued notifying the public that deputies were in pursuit of a pair of suspects who'd led them on a foot chase in the area of Ga. 316 and Jimmy Daniel Road. By 12:45 p.m., the Sheriff's Office announced four suspects wanted in connection with a possible burglary had been apprehended, one of which had been forced up a tree by a k-9. Oconee County Sheriff's deputies arrested the 17-year-old and her mother in connection with an alleged incident at Wal-mart last week. An arrest does not mean a conviction.
A Winder teen authorities eventually determined to be 17-years-old and her mother told Oconee County Sheriff's deputies the girl "could not be arrested" on a shoplifting charge because she was only 16, according to an incident report. Deputies Nov. 30 were called to Wal-mart on Epps Bridge Parkway where a store security guard said he'd witnessed the mother-daughter duo try to steal more than $500 worth of merchandise. When asked for her date of birth, a deputy says the teen, who initially identified herself as Lavera, paused before stating "02/01/1992." The deputy replied that that would make her 20. Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were called to a trailer in the Pinewood Estates South mobile home park last week where a worker with the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) said a woman had threatened to hit her with a broken, sharp, metal broom handle. According to an incident report, it happened on Nov. 13 just before 4 p.m. The DFCS worker told deputies she had been refused access to the children at the home and a 36-year-old woman picked up the broom and attempted multiple times to strike her with it. She said she retreated to her car but the woman chased her and stuck the broom into the car through the passenger's side window and continued to swing it at her face saying, "I'm gonna hit you." Authorities say two Walton County men Friday morning inadvertently flagged down a patrol car after leading deputies on a nearly three-hour foot chase in the area of Lane Creek and Ga. Highway 53 in Oconee County.
A late night single-car crash in Oconee County led to the early morning arrest of two Walton County men. Around 11 p.m. Thursday, a deputy was driving along Ga. Highway 53 toward US Highway 78 when radar indicated a green Honda Accord coming in his direction was traveling at 101mph, according to a news release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. The car, occupied by two men, sped past the deputy. He turned around to stop it, but found it had crashed at the intersection of Lane Creek Road and Ga Highway 53 and the men had fled the scene, the news release stated.
