26 Acts of Kindness Movement Gains Momentum -- Will You Join in?

Will you participate in 26 acts of kindness in honor of those killed on Dec. 14?

Former Today Show host Ann Curry has sparked a movement through Twitter called #26acts, in part to bring about something positive from tragedy. In honor of the 20 children and 6 adults brutally murdered on Friday, Dec. 14, in Newtown, Conn., she is asking that people commit 26 acts of kindness.  People have responded in heartwarming, inspiring ways. After a random act of kindness, they are tweeting back to Ann what they have done.  Here are a few posted so far, with more coming in every few minutes: "Money is tight, but purchasing Christmas gifts for a 14y/o girl in India we have known for 8yrs. School Official: Emergency Plans at Oconee Schools Continually Updated, Partnership with Law Enforcement 'Strong'

"We're always looking for ways to make our schools as safe as possible," says Mark Channell, assistant superintendent for student services.

School officials and law enforcement in Oconee County are taking steps to ease community concerns brought about by Friday's tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. The public school system and Sheriff's Office Monday released statements to assure parents they are working together to increase officer visibility in and around schools this week and review security measures. Mark Channell, assistant superintendent for student services, described the partnership with the Sheriff's Office as "strong." Though there are no full-time school resource officers, deputies regularly visit schools during the day and check facilities at night, he said.
