Monroe Murder Suspect Considered Armed and Dangerous

The Monroe Police Department confirms a man was fatally shot in the early hours of Thursday morning. An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect.

Monroe Police Chief Keith Glass confirmed Thursday that the police department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened on South Broad Street in Monroe Wednesday night. Glass said the shooting is considered a homicide. "At approximately 0230 MPD responded to an unknown problem at 1120 South Broad St, upon arrival Officers found a white male that was unresponsive. MPD Investigators and the GBI were notified," Glass said. "The Victim was identified as 34-year-old white male, Curtis Dewayne Barfield, of Monroe. Based on information and evidence obtained thus far an arrest warrant for Murder has been taken on James Eric Middlebrooks 25 year old white male." Two Monroe Men Facing Burglary Charges in Oconee County

Donald Cory Turpin and Ricky Young are charged in connection with two burglaries that occurred on Choyce Johnson Road on July 26, 2012. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Authorities say two Monroe men, currently behind bars in separate counties, worked as a team in recent weeks to burglarize residences in Oconee County and at least one commercial property in Walton County. Twenty-three-year-old Donald Cory Turpin turned himself into the Oconee County Jail on Wednesday evening on charges stemming from the July 26 burglaries of two homes on Choyce Johnson Road that occurred only minutes apart. Two televisions, a laptop computer and a revolver were reported stolen. Cpl. David  Stauffacher of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office says investigators obtained warrants for Turpin's arrest after a computer taken from one of the houses was recovered.  It had been sold and authorities traced the sale back to Turpin, he…
