The resident of East Haven Trail who was transported by helicopter to an Atlanta hospital last week has not yet been charged, authorities say.
An Oconee County man who was flown to an Atlanta hospital for treatment of burns to his face authorities believe were caused by a small-scale methamphetamine lab explosion remains hospitalized. Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Wednesday that charges have not been filed against the man but they are pending. Oconee Fire and Rescue personnel were called to a house in the 1000 block of East Haven Trail just before 11 p.m. on Feb. 14 in response to a kitchen fire, according to a report. When they arrived, they say they fire was already out, but a resident was burned. The man was taken to Malcom Bridge Elementary School by National EMS for a helicopter transport. Marietta Man Tied to NC Meth Ring – Marietta Patch A Marietta man is in a North Carolina jail in connection with the seizure of nearly half a million dollars' worth of crystal meth. Miguel Angel Hernandez, 31, of the 1000 block of Amelia Drive was one of three men arrested in Brunswick County, NC, last month in the biggest crystal meth bust ever in that county, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. A resident of the home is already in the Oconee County Jail on a probation violation charge from another county, authorities report.
What started as a check on complaints of problematic dogs turned into a cleanup of two small-scale methamphetamine labs at 1031 Old Bishop Road on Monday. Shortly after noon, Oconee County Animal Control officers responded to several calls of dogs running at large around the home, observed something known to be drug paraphernalia and called the Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Scott Berry said. "Deputy (Josh) Elrod arrived and saw some things consistent with what we believed was a meth lab at the time," he said. "We put the house under surveillance and drafted a search warrant, and we've been inside the house." It's possible that the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has located another methamphetamine lab in the county, according to reports from authorities. Chief Deputy Lee Weems said a search warrant was being executed at a 1000-block residence of Old Bishop Road just after 4 p.m. on Monday. Fire and medical units were also on the scene. Earlier in the day a deputy was responding to a call from Animal Control to check on a couple of problem dogs when he noticed some items on the property that are usually associated with meth labs, Weems said. A man authorities say was tied to three meth labs in a two-day window back in August has pleaded guilty in Oconee County Superior Court to conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. On Tuesday Superior Court Judge David Sweat sentenced Shealy to 10 years, of which the first 12 months must be served in prison or a regional substance abuse treatment center. In additon, Shealy must pay $1,829 in restitution, fines and probation, Clerk of Superior Court Angela Watson said. On a rainy Friday evening, a Hazardous Materials Team from Athens-Clarke County donned protective gear and headed into a home on Moreland Heights Road in Oconee County to test substances authorities believe may be components of a meth lab. Deputies and Oconee County firefighters set up a perimeter around the home as the HazMat team readied for the search, but no surrounding homes were evacuated. Three arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports.
A routine traffic stop has uncovered components of meth labs and stolen property in Oconee and Barrow counties and has led to the arrests of three suspects, including a father and son. Investigations began Thursday around 3 p.m. when an Oconee deputy pulled over the driver of a small pickup truck in the Oconee Plaza shopping center parking lot on Hog Mountain Road.
