How Do You Plan to Spend Memorial Day?

Barbecues and beach trips are great, but that's not what makes this holiday important. What do you have planned for this day of remembrance?

Memorial Day is more than just time off from work and the beginning of summer- it's a chance to commemorate those who have sacrificed their lives in the country's service. Locally there are a number of events and services planned offering folks the opportunity to observe the holiday together.  Do you know anyone who has served and lost friends? Are you a veteran whose thoughts are with the memory of a fellow soldier who fell on foreign soil?  Please share your thoughts, plans or memories of those who were lost to war in the comments section below.

Do You Know the Difference Between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?

These two days honoring the military are often confused.

Do you know what distinguishes Memorial Day from Veterans Day? Memorial Day is specifically set aside for those killed in battle or who died of wounds suffered in war. Veterans Day is meant to honor all U.S. veterans, living or dead. Do you find some people don't know the distinction? Why do you suppose that is? Tell us in the comments.

Businesses and DAR Hold Memorial Day Weekend Celebration For Military Families

Young and old alike enjoyed games, food, and live music as they celebrated and honored members of the military and their families on Saturday in Watkinsville.

There’s nothing quite like the images of red, white, and blue bunting,  gleeful children,  hotdogs and homemade cakes on Memorial Day weekend to put you in a patriotic mood.
