An Oconee County Sheriff's investigator has obtained 12 warrants in the 32 year old's name, mostly relating to the identity theft of victims from multiple states. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.
A traffic stop in Oconee County Monday led to the arrest of an Atlanta woman who faces at least a dozen counts of identity theft-related charges, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. Corporal Clark Sparrow pulled over the driver of a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Jimmy Daniel and Virgil Langford roads around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 for a suspended vehicle registration, according to a news release. "[The driver] appeared to be nervous beyond that which is normal on a traffic stop, and she also gave conflicting answers to questions asked of her to include statements believed to be false concerning military service on her part," the release stated. Lt. David Kilpatrick says the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has seen a dramatic decrease in such reports since March 17.

Lt. David Kilpatrick says the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has noticed a spike in the amount of identity theft reports by way of unauthorized debit card transactions.
Oconee County authorities are investigating an influx of reports of fraudulent debit card transactions. On Tuesday, Lt. David Kilpatrick, chief investigator of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, rifled through about 40 reports of identity theft that have occurred since March 5. The stack of reports on his desk are the result of citizens' debit card numbers that have been stolen and used to make purchases under the assumption of the identity of the cardholder. "When a victim reports that his debit card was fraudulently used, say in North Carolina, the crime, for our department, is investigated as identity theft," said Kilpatrick. The investigations department can't investigate the transactions as fraud, he said, because those cases can …
