The 19 year old is recovering at Atlanta's Shepherd Center and the man accused of hitting her has been released on bond.

On Thursday, one poster says, Emily tried to write her name: Emily's doctor gave Emily a dry erase board and marker to see what she would do with it. Emily Bowman Out of Coma, Moved to Shepherd Center for Rehab

After being hospitalized for nearly a month, the 19-year-old Woodstock woman will soon begin intensive rehabilitation.

The 19-year-old Woodstock woman who has been hospitalized after being run over last month in Athens has achieved yet another milestone in her battle towards recovery. Emily Bowman, who has now been breathing on her own, opening her eyes and responding to stimuli, was moved to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehab on Friday, WSB reports. Bowman's uncle Neal Bowman said on Thursday in a post on the Bows for Bowman Facebook page that his niece has "made enough improvement that her doc[tor] told her mom she's now now technically in a coma." The suspect in last month's hit-and-run that left a Woodstock woman in critical condition turned himself into the Clarke County Jail on Wednesday. William Wilson Heaton, Jr., 22, of Rydal has been charged with hit-and-run, driving under the influence, serious injury by  vehicle, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, and open container, according to Athens Clarke County Police. Bond was set Thursday at $50,000, the Athens Banner-Herald reports, and there are conditions, including that Heaton must reside in the Western Judicial Circuit. Emily Bowman lies in a hospital bed in Athens Regional, recovering from severe injuries she sustained in a hit-and-run accident on Feb. 16. The man suspected of hitting her, and then leaving the scene of the accident, is William Wilson Heaton, 22, of Cartersville, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.   A Woodstock teenager who was hit by a truck in an alleged hit-and-run incident last month on Oconee Street in Athens opened her eyes for the first time. Emily Bowman, Hit-and-Run Victim, Showing Signs of Improvement

An Athens neurosurgeon says Emily Bowman's brain is responding to stimulation, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

  Emily Bowman has been in a coma since a red Mazda pickup struck her early Saturday morning on Oak Street. But now, neurosurgeon Kimberly Walpert believes there is less chance of the 19-year-old's dying than there was when she arrived at Athens Regional. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Dr. Walpert has so far removed part of Emily's skull--a procedure called a  craniectomy--to give her brain room to swell. She has also drained fluid from Emily's brain and removed a blood clot. Even though Emily is still comatose, the story says, Dr. Walpert says the injured young woman's brain is responding to stimulation and the brain activity is better than it was a few days ago. The victim of a hit-and-run is fighting for her life after she sustained brain injuries early Saturday morning.

  Emily Bowman, 19, remains in a coma and on a ventilator at Athens Regional Medical Condition. Her father Dale Bowman has remained with her around the clock, since he learned early Saturday morning that his daughter had been in a hit-and-run accident on Oak Street and was severely injured.
