Oconee County's 5 Percent Unemployment Rate Remains Lowest in State
In the Northeast Georgia region, rates have declined.
At 5.0 percent in March 2013, Oconee County's unemployment rate continues to be the lowest in the state. The rate was unchained from a revised 5.0 percent in February. Out of the county's labor force of 19,916, 1,003 were jobless last month. Hancock and Chattahoochee counties tied for the highest unemployment rate in March at 17.1 percent. The Georgia Department of Labor announced that the Northeast Georgia region’s unemployment rate declined four-tenths of a percentage point from 7.8 percent in February to 7.4 percent in March. The rate for the region was 8.5 percent in March a year ago. The regional rate declined as a result of fewer new layoffs, according to a news release. Ga. Dept. of Labor Will Help Recruit for Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins in Athens, Ga.
The recruitment will happen on Monday, December 3, at the GDOL Career Center off North Avenue on Evelyn Neely Drive.
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will help Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins fill about 30 retail jobs at a new store in Athens. The recruitment will be held Monday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the GDOL’s Athens Career Center, located at 150 Evelyn C. Neely Dr. The company will be recruiting bakers, cashiers, sandwich makers, and personnel to take orders in the drive-through lane. The company will provide training to selected applicants. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED), able to count money accurately, stand-up for long periods of time, and provide friendly service to customers. Georgia's Jobless Rate Falls in April
Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.9 percent, a one-tenth of a percentage point drop from March.
For the first time in more than three years, Georgia's jobless rate has dipped below 9 percent. On May 17, State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announced Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.9 percent, a one-tenth of a percentage point drop from March. The decrease marked the ninth consecutive month the jobless rate has dropped. “We now have the lowest unemployment rate, the fewest unemployed workers, and the most jobs in Georgia in more than three years,” stated Butler in a press release. “Our job market continues to improve at a modest and steady rate.” Georgia's jobless rate was last below 9 percent in February of 2009 when it was also 8.9 percent.
