An Oconee County Sheriff's investigator has obtained 12 warrants in the 32 year old's name, mostly relating to the identity theft of victims from multiple states. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.
A traffic stop in Oconee County Monday led to the arrest of an Atlanta woman who faces at least a dozen counts of identity theft-related charges, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. Corporal Clark Sparrow pulled over the driver of a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Jimmy Daniel and Virgil Langford roads around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 for a suspended vehicle registration, according to a news release. "[The driver] appeared to be nervous beyond that which is normal on a traffic stop, and she also gave conflicting answers to questions asked of her to include statements believed to be false concerning military service on her part," the release stated. An Oconee County woman told deputies last week she believes her ex-husband forged several documents that allowed him to gain access to her assets. In particular, she accused the man of forging signatures that allowed him to access a will that had been left to her. The woman said a cashier's check was obtained fraudulently from a local bank in the amount of $80,000 and in total $250,000 has been taken from the account. The woman was advised of the warrant process and asked to update the Sheriff's Office with any further information. Regional law enforcement investigators recovered several stolen items on Thursday that are traceble to fradulent purchases around the area, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry announced on his office's Facebook page. The recovery is part of a multijurisdictional investigation that has resulted in multiple arrests and "put a big dent in a crime ring operating in the area," the Sheriff's Office said. The seizures were made in Oglethorpe County and involved items bought with fraudulent credit cards at the Oconee County Lowe's, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. An Athens woman was booked into the Oconee County Jail Thursday on charges stemming from an investigation into the theft of an 87-year-old woman's wallet and fraudulent use of the victim's credit cards. Nancy C. Crawford, 61, of Billups Street in Athens, is charged with three counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count of identity fraud, according to a news release. An arrest does not mean a conviction. On Sept. 5, the victim was shopping at Kroger when her wallet was taken from her purse. Her credit cards were then used at Lowe's and Walmart to make $4,000 worth of purchases. The Oconee County, Ga. Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects and a car caught on surveillance video Sept. 5 at Walmart on Lowe's on Epps Bridge Parkway.
The Oconee County Sheriff's Office Wednesday evening released still images of two suspects -- a man and woman -- authorities believe may be connected to a case of theft and fraud. The images were obtained from video surveillance along with images of a car with which the two individuals may have been associated. Earlier in the day, an 87-year-old woman reported her wallet as stolen, according to Chief Deputy Lee Weems. The victim's credit cards were then used to make more than $4,000 worth of fraudulent charges at Walmart and Lowe's on Epps Bridge Parkway, he said. The employee of Great Clips allegedly made 104 unauthorized transactions in small increments using customers' credit cards over the last several months, according to the manager's internal investigation.
Oconee County deputies are investigating a claim by the manager of Great Clips Hair Salon on Epps Bridge Parkway that an employee may have committed financial transaction card fraud, stealing money from customers by making more than 100 unauthorized transactions using their credit cards over the last couple of months. According to an incident report, the manager told deputies on April 13 that some time between the beginning of the year and last week, two different customers called the salon after noticing a higher charge to their credit cards than had been made at the time of service. When the first customer inquired about the discrepancy, the manager said she thought it was just a mistake and advised the employee to be more cautious. …

Authorities report there has been a break in an ongoing investigation.
New information has been released today by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office about developments in the investigation into last month's surge of reports of unauthorized debit transactions. About 65 incidents were reported at the Sheriff's Office during an 8-day period in March, Chief Investigator Lt. David Kilpatrick had said, and between $40,000-$45,000 was stolen. Monday afternoon the Sheriff's Office said that two people are in custody in Virginia in connection with the crime. The suspects allegedly "were in possession of over 200 local cloned debit cards," a post on the OCSO Facebook page stated.
