Shoplifting Suspect Gets Stitches After Tussle with Oconee Walmart Security Guard

The 18 year old is accused of trying to steal more than $600 worth of items from the store. An arrest isn't a conviction.

A Greensboro man accused of trying to steal over $600 worth of merchandise from Walmart on Epps Bridge Parkway wound up in the emergency room after tussling with a store security guard. The incident allegedly occurred on March 18 around 2 p.m., according to a Sheriff's report.  The guard told deputies he saw a man select various items from a display and place them into a shopping cart.  The man then tried to leave the store through the garden shop without paying for the items, he said. The guard confronted the shoplifting suspect in the fenced garden section and the man agreed to go back into the store.  However, the man became "uncooperative and disorderly" and was quickly escorted back out of the store, the guard said. Knife Found in Drain Pipe Near Scene of Fight

No one was reportedly injured in the altercation involving juveniles on Dowdy Road in Oconee County, Ga., last Wednesday afternoon.

A knife was found in a drain pipe and a gun was rumored to have been flashed during a fight Wednesday afternoon in Oconee County, but no one was reportedly harmed during the altercation. According to an incident report, a sheriff's deputy was called to an address in the 1200 block of Dowdy Road around 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 16.  As he arrived on the scene, he saw "two large groups of people running in separate directions, but never saw any actual fighting." The deputy interviewed the parties involved who said the fight started after one juvenile said something about another juvenile's mother. A girl said she saw a knife during the fight, which was later found in a nearby drain pipe, according to the report. The deputy notes that the girl …

Arrests Made in Oconee IHOP Brawl Case

Four were charged this week with affray and criminal damage to property stemming from the Oct. 14 fight.

Three men and a woman were booked into the Oconee County Jail this week on charges of affray and criminal damage to property in connection with the early morning brawl at IHOP on Oct. 14. According to witness accounts and surveillance video footage, one group of customers began to insult another group, who were wearing cowboy hats.  The argument then escalated into pushing, hitting, and the throwing of furniture.  The first deputy on the scene just happened to pull into the restaurant's parking lot around 3 a.m. and see the fight in progress, Chief Deputy Lee Weems explained. Fight Breaks Out at Oconee IHOP, Warrants to Be Taken on Four Suspects

Several individuals were treated for injuries and the dining room of the restaurant was damaged early Sunday morning.

A fight broke out early Sunday morning at IHOP on Parkway Place, resulting in numerous injuries and property damage. The Oconee County Sheriff's deputy who arrived first at the chaotic scene around 3 a.m. says employees, customers, complainants, victims, witnesses and suspects all came rushing toward him in the parking lot.  According to an incident report, the deputy immediately called for backup.   "Several of the suspects came toward me acting violent, making threats, yelling profanities and racial slurs toward me and IHOP employees," he wrote in the report.  The deputy displayed his handgun "by unholstering at a low ready position in my right hand" but, he says, one suspect continued to be combative, so he pointed a Taser at the …

Two Men Fight at Oconee County High Sporting Event

The altercation, involving two individuals from Hoschton, reportedly occurred Tuesday night.

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the parking lot of Oconee County High School around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 where two Hoschton men, ages 38 and 36, had reportedly been fighting. According to an incident report, the 38-year-old had a bruise near his right eye, marks near his collarbone and a ripped shirt. There were no visible injuries on the other man.  Each accused the other of having started the argument.  Statements were taken from witnesses, but no arrests were made at the time. Earlier in the month, two juveniles were charged with affray after a fight during a pep rally at North Oconee High School. Crime Report: Pit Bull Shot Dead, Waffle House Vandalism and Scuffle at Pep Rally

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Sept. 13-16.

Dog Shot to Death: A Marshall Store Road resident reported someone shot and killed his fawn-colored pit bull sometime between 10 p.m. on Sept. 15 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 16.  The dog's owner said he found the dog's body with one fatal bullet wound just off the road in the 1200 block of the street. He said the dog was kept in a pen but must have escaped.  He also said he didn't believe the dog was aggressive and that he believes he knows who is responsible but didn't want to press charges right away. Deputies spoke with a neighbor about the incident who said he did not shoot the dog.  The investigation continues. Fight Lands Seven in Jail

Seven men were booked into the Oconee County Jail Saturday on charges of disorderly conduct after a fight outside of Pinewood Estates South mobile home park. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Seven men were taken into custody and drugs and a gun were seized outside of Pinewood South mobile home park on Epps Bridge Road Saturday morning, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies report. When they arrived on the scene around 12:30 a.m., deputies say they saw the men in the middle of a confrontation.  Three of the men ran toward a white Chevy Impala and the other four attempted to run in another direction but were stopped by a deputy near the entrance of the park. Once the men were detained, deputies searched the area and vehicles for a gun that had reportedly been shot several times.  A bag containing marijuana was found in a green Ford Mustang and the car was towed due to no valid insurance, according to the report. An employee was punched in the face by a 45-year-old grandmother when she tried to separate two other women who were fighting, according to reports. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A quarrel broke out near the nail salon inside Walmart about 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 between two women who reportedly have children by the same father, according to an incident report on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. A 25-year-old Athens woman told deputies she saw her son's 45-year-old grandmother at the nail salon and went to talk to her when she was forced to defend herself against a 30-year-old Crawford woman with whom she's had problems before. She said the woman began to hit her. However, the Crawford woman claimed she was hit first and was only acting in self defense. Athens Man Stabbed During Fight Along Oconee River

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies arrested five for affray and also charged one of them -- a Watkinsville man-- with aggravated assault following the incident Tuesday night.

An Athens man was stabbed in the hand and shoulder during an altercation around 9:15 p.m Tuesday near the Arbor Express convenience store on Old Macon Highway, authorities reported. The fight broke out on private property along the bank on the Oconee side of the Oconee River,  said Lee Weems, chief deputy of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, in an email. The property owner had not given permission for the individuals to be there, he added.
