The Oconee County Code Enforcement Office has issued building permits for more than 60 percent of the core space in Epps Bridge Centre.
The Oconee County Code Enforcement Office by the end of the day Friday had issued eight building permits for five different structures at Epps Bridge Centre.
Other businesses appearing on a map briefly shared on social media Tuesday are unconfirmed, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

If a sporting goods giant, department store, and pet shop are on your list, you'll be happy to hear that Dick's Sporting Goods, Marshalls and PetSmart are among retailers that have signed contracts, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. The newspaper reports the Centre will also be home to a cosmetics store, a shoe store, and a Christian-based shop. But developer Frank Bishop of The Bishop Company in the article said other businesses that appeared on a conceptual map shared on Facebook Tuesday are unconfirmed. One confirmed tenant that has garnered a lot of excitement is the Georgia Theatre Company, which plans to open a 16-screen facility on Memorial Day. …

The Oconee Connector Extension has been open for a couple of months, and crews have been clearing trees for weeks at the site of the future Epps Bridge Centre. Now, according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald, Bishop Company is preparing to officially break ground on the project Tuesday. The $76 million retail development is happening on a 68-acre tract located along the new stretch of roadway. An estimated 22 commercial buildings are planned, along with a 16-screen theater that will feature state-of-the-art projection and stadium-style seating to accommodate almost 3,000 people. Im glad that Athens will have another option for going to the movies, and hopefully we can get a Steak N Shake in there... Only thing Im not looking forward to is the congestion that is bound to come when this mall opens.   more ›

I'd also like to see a Capital One bank in Athens so I can use my Sony Playstation Card. (It's weird having a credit card that runs through a bank that isn't even local. On top of that, I keep getting mail from Capital One ANYWAYS for other things. I don't even own a Capital One bank account. But, it would be nice to see it around here since I checked the website and there's not one within 75 …   more ›
