Cars Entered on Trailwood and Hillcrest Drives

An Xbox 360 console, GPS devices and cash were taken.

Oconee County Sheriff's investigators are working on several cases of entered autos reported last week. Two Hyundai Sonatas parked in a driveway at a 1100 block Trailwood Drive residence were entered sometime between 6 p.m. on Feb. 19 and 7 a.m. on Feb. 20. A radar/laser detector, two GSP devices and $40 cash were taken. On Feb. 20, a deputy met with a resident of 1100 block of Hillcrest Drive who reported his vehicle had been entered sometime between 10 p.m. on Feb. 19 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 20.  A wallet and a cell phone charger were taken. While on the scene, the deputy took a second report of an entered auto at the same address. An Xbox 360 console and a radio amplifier were taken from the other vehicle.

Oconee Co. Sheriff's Office Staff Replaces Child's Stolen Christmas Presents

The gifts were taken from an unlocked car on Bradford Place sometime overnight Christmas Eve to early Christmas morning.

When presents for a little girl were discovered missing from the car of a family visiting friends in Oconee County early Christmas morning,  Sheriff's Office personnel took it upon themselves to make sure the 3-year-old would have gifts to open. According to an incident report, the Nissan Xterra had been parked in a driveway at a residence in the 1000 block of Bradford Place off of Union Church Road.  Shortly after 1 a.m., a woman realized someone had entered the unlocked vehicle and had removed her daughter's presents and a new Samsung Galaxy cell phone. The woman had a receipt for the cell phone with identifying information, which was entered into the National Crime Information Center as stolen. Oconee 911 Center operators and deputies …

Lane Creek Road Garage Burgled

Also under investigation is the theft of a catalytic converter from a car parked at Bimmer South Automotive on Ashley Avenue.

A resident of the 1500 block of Lane Creek Road told Oconee County Sheriff's deputies Sunday he returned home from a weekend trip and noticed several items missing from his garage.  The burglary occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 26 ad 3 p.m. on Oct. 28. A red kayak and a compound bow were among the items missing. The missing items are valued at $1,050. Someone had apparently tried to unsuccessfully break into a steel container behind the residence and damaged a lock in the process. The case is under investigation. In other news:

Update: Fugitive Wanted in California for Armed Robbery Nabbed in Oconee Shoplifting Case

Chief deputy says San Francisco authorities have decided not to extradite Janey Corran Travis, 22, of Athens. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Update 2:22 p.m.: Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports San Francisco authorities are not going to extradite Travis and she will be released as soon as her bond is processed. A 22-year-old Athens woman wanted in San Francisco, California on a charge of armed robbery was arrested Monday in Oconee County. According to the Sheriff's Office, Janey Corran Travis of Christy Court was taken into custody at Kohl's after store employees accused her of putting new shoes on two children and attempting to leave the store without paying for them.   Travis and Bryan Yahola Campbell, 27, of the same address, were both charged with shoplifting. On Saturday, Sept. 29, Oconee County Sheriff's Deputies investigated five reports of autos that had been entered. Most of the vehicles had been left unlocked. The following is a summary of the incident reports: Authorities said patrols have been stepped up in the areas. Investigations are ongoing.

Authorities Link Man Charged With Loitering to Entered Auto

Deputies arrested a 27-year-old Clarke County man in the area of Oconee Crossing early Tuesday morning. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

When Oconee County deputies spotted an unattended orange Chevy Avalanche in the Oconee Crossing area around 3 a.m. Tuesday and then saw a 27-year-old man walking nearby on Corporate Drive, they say they had suspicions something wasn't right. Chief Deputy Lee Weems says patrol deputies were aware of multiple reports of entering autos so they questioned the man about where he had been. The man initially told the deputies that he was coming from a friend's house, but he could not provide a name or address of the friend, Weems said, and residents said they didn't know the man.
