How to Make Rainbow Colored Deviled Eggs

This Easter use this easy recipe to turn your hard boiled eggs into a work of art.

Looking for something special to serve for an Easter lunch or dinner this Sunday? I have just the thing. This is yet another cool idea I found on Pinterest. I used my own deviled egg recipe and simply colored the eggs in Easter pastels. Here's what you need: One dozen hard-boiled eggs, peeled Food coloring Vinegar Water Directions: Slice the hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise, remove the yolks. Place yolks in bowl to make filling. Wash the sliced eggs to remove any yolk residue. Place one tablespoon of vinegar and one half cup of water in a small cup. Add food coloring until desired color is created. Place egg in food coloring mixture and let soak until egg color reaches desired intensity. Remove egg from coloring mixture and place on a …

Photos and Video: Oconee's 15th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Easter-themed activities kept children busy for hours but it was the main event -- the egg hunt -- that stirred up the most excitement.

The warm, sunny day was the perfect setting for the 15th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Oconee Veterans Park on Saturday.  The event was presented by the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department, Oconee County Tourism and The Oconee Enterprise.  Canned food items were collected and will be donated to the Area Churches Together Serving Food Bank. Activities included inflatables, cookie decorating, face painting and a photo op with the Easter bunny, among others. Board of Commissioners Chairman Melvin Davis, Commissioner Chuck Horton and Sheriff Scott Berry presided over the egg hunt, which was broken into age divisions.  Children eagerly scrambled around the fields, filling their special baskets with colorful treat-filled eggs.  And a few …

Happy Hunting!

Bunnies, bubbles, and baskets...fun was had by all at the 14th Annual Oconee County Easter Egg Hunt!

Saturday’s cloudy weather was brightened by the smiles and laughter of hundreds of beautiful children filling the Youth Fields of Oconee Veterans Park for their first hosting of the 14th Annual Oconee County Easter Egg Hunt. Originally held in downtown Watkinsville and hosted by its merchants and businesses, the hunt quickly grew too large for the area and was moved to Heritage Park where it was hosted by The Athens-Oconee Junior Women’s Club until last year. “In January 2011,  Oconee Parks and Recreation Department took the reins on this event and began working with the the Oconee Enterprise and Oconee County Tourism to put the hunt on this April.” said Whitney Byce, Community Programs Coordinator of OCPRD. “I asked Maridee Williams about…

No Time to Dye Easter Eggs? No Problem.

A selection of naturally-colored shelled eggs will be available at the Oconee Farmers Market on Saturday.

Easter is only a couple of days away, and if you don't have a lot of time to dye eggs to decorate the table, you may find an alternative solution at the Oconee Farmers Market. Melissa Powell of Oak Leaf Farm in Bostwick sells a selection of free-range eggs that naturally come in a variety of colors. Chickens lay eggs that are layered in white, beige, light brown, chocolate brown, and even blue and olive colors, she said. The Ameraucana breed of chickens --often referred to as an 'Easter Egger'--  is one of a couple breeds known to lay blueish-green eggs, explained Powell. While the eggshell color depends on the breed, the yolk color can vary by a chicken's diet, she said. Just from her observations, she said a darker orange yolk comes from…
