Oconee Youth School of Performance (OYSP) offers dance classes for children of all dance levels and ages, starting as young as 2 1/2 years old. Event-goers enjoyed Native American song and dance and roasting marshmallows in downtown Watkinsville on Nov. 4.

The November First Friday on Main Street in Watkinsville featured Native American song, chant, and dance and Thanksgiving kids' activities. The monthly event is sponsored by the Watkinsville Trade and Tourism Association.

Whiz Kid: Amy Reyner

Full of grace and charm.

Name: Amy Reyner School: 8th grader at Malcom Bridge Middle School Accomplishment:  Amy dances ballet, pointe, hip hop, lyrical, tap at Alice DePass Studio of Dance. In addition to dancing, Amy plays the piano and participates in the school chorus, Jr. Beta Club,  Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and her church youth group. Amy is also a soloist with Encore Dance Theatre. Key To Awesomeness: The stamina it takes to perform at Amy's level is truly unique, but so is Amy. Performing with charm and grace, all that work with her agree that Amy is as beautiful inside as she is on the outside.

Oconee Youth School of Performance Celebrates National Dance Day

Terra and Shane Hannon, co-directors of the Oconee Youth School of Performance, held a free dance event at their studio on Saturday, July 30.  The event, which was open to the public, celebrated National Dance Day by offering a chance for parents and youth to embrace the art of dance by learning choreographed pieces Saturday afternoon, including a hip-hop master class by NappyTabs of the Fox TV show "So You Think You Can Dance?" “We are big fans of 'So You Think You Can Dance?',” Terra Hannon said in a released statement. "So we wanted to participate in this national initiative to promote dance as a fun and healthy activity for all ages.” Some participants were selected to appear in a video of Saturday's performance that will be sent to "…

A benefit motorcycle ride raises money for the family of fallen Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Buddy Christian and injured Senior Police Officer Tony Howard.

1. Expect temperatures in the 90s to stick around for several days, according to the National Weather Service's 7-day forecast.  The hot streak is likely to last until Thursday.  There will be sunny skies today and clear skies this evening. 2. A Line of Duty Benefit Motorcycle Ride raises money for the family of fallen Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Buddy Christian and injured Senior Police Officer Tony Howard.   Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Cycle World of Athens. Viewfinder: Valentine's Gala 2011

Locals danced the night away at Oconee Civic Center and also enjoyed great music and food.

The Oconee County Senior Center held its 7th annual Valentine's Gala at the Civic Center on Feb.10.   "It was as great a success this year as in previous years,"  said Senior Center Director Marian Nolley, who coordinated the event. Even though the event is hosted by the Senior Center, Nolley said that the Valentine's Gala is open to the public and people of all ages attend along with  groups, such as the Ballroom Dance group that meets at the Senior Center.   Sweet Delight catered this year's event, and music and entertainment was provided by The Hands of Time, an Athens band.   Correction:  The photographer in the original story was misidentified.  The name on the photo credits and byline has been changed.
