Suspect From Oconee Crash Apprehended in Athens

The car involved in Saturday night's accident near the Oconee Connector had been reported stolen out of Monroe, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

Oconee County deputies Monday arrested a man they say crashed a stolen car near the Oconee Connector and fled the scene late Saturday night. Charleston Jamal Croffie, 21, was taken into custody at Parkview Homes in Athens on Monday afternoon after investigators received a tip that he was there, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office issued an alert that a man had fled from a deputy who tried to pull him over for speeding. The car crashed at the intersection of Daniels Bridge and Mars Hill roads and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Oconee Sheriff's Office Seeks Man Suspected of Crashing Car, Fleeing on Foot

The chase happened near the Oconee Connector at the intersection of Daniels Bridge and Mars Hill roads just before midnight Saturday.

Oconee County deputies used K-9s in a late night search for a man the Sheriff's Office says crashed a vehicle near the Oconee Connector at the intersection of Daniels Bridge and Mars Hill roads and fled the scene on foot. A deputy had attempted to stop the man for speeding, according to a Nixle alert sent just before midnight on Saturday. The Sheriff's Office later identified the suspect as 21-year-old Charleston Jamal Croffie. Croffie is described as 5'11" and 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark clothing.
