Western Circuit Plans for Judge's Likely Federal Move
Staffers kick it into high gear as Superior Court Judge Steve Jones waits on Senate confirmation.
Preparation is taking place throughout Oconee and Athens-Clarke Counties' 10th District Western Judicial Circuit as Superior Court Judge Steve Jones awaits U.S. Senate confirmation of his presidential appointment to federal court. President Obama nominated Jones, an Athens native, for the federal seat in July, stating in a press release that Jones was one of several appointees who "demonstrated a commitment to justice throughout their careers." The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Jones' appointment to the U.S. Northern District of Georgia's Atlanta Division in December.
