Connie Massey Wins Watkinsville Council Seat

According to unofficial results, Massey beat Nicole Brooks by 66 votes in the Nov. 6 Special Election.

Watkinsville Council Race Contested, Special Election to be Held

Nicole Brooks qualified Wednesday to run for Post 2. She's pitted against Connie Massey in the Nov. 6 Special Election.

Watkinsville voters are tasked with electing a new council member on Nov. 6. Nicole Brooks, an Oconee County jailer, qualified Wednesday afternoon, city clerk Julie Sanders said.  She's running against picture framer Connie Massey, who qualified Monday.  The qualifying period ended Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the Special Election will serve out Norman's remaining term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2013. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 9. Absentee ballots may be requested starting on Oct. 15, the same day early voting begins.  Early voting will wrap up…

Connie Massey Qualifies for Vacant Watkinsville Council Seat

So far only one candidate has qualified to fill the unexpired term of Henry Norman, who recently resigned and moved outside of the city limits.

According to City Clerk Julie Sanders, certified picture framer Connie Massey qualified Monday to run for Post 2, which was vacated by Henry Norman last week. Norman's final council meeting was September 12.  He resigned mid-term because he planned to move 200 yards outside of the city limits, The Oconee Enterprise reported last week. Norman was appointed in August 2009_ to serve out the unexpired term of John Walsh and ran unopposed in Nov. 2010 for a two-year term that will expire Dec. 31, 2013. Qualifying for the special election is taking place through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at …
