The driver of a white, 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass who led an Oconee County Sheriff's deputy on a chase into Morgan County last Friday afternoon has so far eluded capture. According to an incident report, the deputy grew suspicious as the driver "took exceptional notice of [his] presence" while the deputy waited to turn onto Price Mill Road around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4. The deputy checked the vehicle's tag and found that it had no valid insurance, so he initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Golden Pantry in Bishop on US 441. "It should be noted that the driver was immensely watching me through the side view mirror as I exited my vehicle and began to approach his vehicle," the deputy wrote. An Athens man is behind bars in Oconee County, accused of shoving his former girlfriend out of her moving car, Watkinsville Police report. Officers were called to a VFW Drive address Saturday around 2 p.m. The woman told them she had been in an arguement with a former boyfriend over her 1999 Mercury Mystique, according to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon. The woman said the man pushed her from the moving car, dragging her on the pavement, and fled the scene. Oconee County First Responders and National EMS treated her for "road rash," O'Dillon said. Authorities say two Walton County men Friday morning inadvertently flagged down a patrol car after leading deputies on a nearly three-hour foot chase in the area of Lane Creek and Ga. Highway 53 in Oconee County.
A late night single-car crash in Oconee County led to the early morning arrest of two Walton County men. Around 11 p.m. Thursday, a deputy was driving along Ga. Highway 53 toward US Highway 78 when radar indicated a green Honda Accord coming in his direction was traveling at 101mph, according to a news release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. The car, occupied by two men, sped past the deputy. He turned around to stop it, but found it had crashed at the intersection of Lane Creek Road and Ga Highway 53 and the men had fled the scene, the news release stated.
