Four Children Injured in Athens Wreck; Teen Driver Charged

In all, five people were injured in the crash Wednesday night on North Avenue in Athens, Ga. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

Athens-Clarke County Police have charged a 19-year-old Nicholson man in a wreck that sent five to a local hospital Wednesday night. According to a police report, a 23-year-old Athens man was a driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on North Avenue around 10 p.m.  The driver attempted a left turn onto Old Hull Rd when his vehicle was struck in the passenger side by a northbound 1991 Volvo 240 driven by Nathaniel T. Edwards, the report says. The driver of the Toyota and all four passengers, ages 1-14, were transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. Edwards was charged with DUI, underage possession/consumption of alcohol, and three counts of serious injury by vehicle.  He was released on a $17,000 bond early Thursday morning, according …

Couple in Fatal Crash Identified – Canton-Sixes Patch The couple killed in a Feb. 5 accident on Knox Bridge Highway have been identified as Rick Dean Headen, 48, of Sour Lake, Texas and Charlotte Ann Sedtal, 40, also of Sour Lake. The couple were the parents of a 2-month-old infant that sustained a broken leg and brain injury in the accident. Headen, Sedtal and their baby boy were "apparently just passing through, on their way to another state," when their Ford Focus, which was headed eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a red Dodge pickup truck that was headed westbound. Headen and Sedtal died at the scene. The baby, who has not been identified, remains at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, which is in Sandy …

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department.

In his weekly news release, Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending June 12. Watkinsville police responded to a total of 29 calls within city limits between Monday, June 6 and Sunday, June 12.
