Grease Fire Chars Section of Kitchen

An Oconee County man used a garden hose to extinguish the flames.

A resident of High Shoals Road sprang into action last Saturday when a grease fire lit up in his kitchen. Oconee County Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton said the man used a garden hose to extinguish the flames before the fire department arrived. Firefighters checked the kitchen for hot spots, but found none. Watkinsville Police Investigate Attempted Break-in

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

A Harden Hill Road resident returned home from work last Wednesday, May 1, to find that someone had broken a window on the garage door. According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the intruder may have attempted to reach inside and unlock the door but it was secured with a double cylinder dead bolt lock. The burglar didn't get inside and nothing outside seemed to be missing, he said. Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between April 29 - May 5, 2013. Man Puts Out Fire in Neighbor's Yard on Ramser Drive

The man called the Oconee County Fire Department but was able to extinguish the flames himself.

A resident of Ramser Drive spotted a fire in his neighbor's yard last week and sprang into action. According to Oconee County Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton, the department received a call around 8:30 p.m. on April 22 from the man who said the small fire had spread over a 3' X 3' section of his neighbor's landscaping.  The neighbor wasn't home, so the man extinguished the fire himself, and the call to the Fire Department was cancelled. Jaws of Life Used to Extricate Driver After Minivan Flips, Lands Upright

Here's a summary of calls Oconee County Fire Rescue answered during the week ending on April 21, 2013.

Oconee County Fire and Rescue personnel on Sunday, April 21, extricated the driver of a Dodge minivan using the Jaws of Life after the vehicle crashed on the SR 10 Loop near Ga. Highway 316. It happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. The minivan had overturned and landed upright, Chief Bruce Thaxton explained, and the driver was removed with through a passenger door and transported to a local hospital. Rock Damages Trunk on Lexus

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Watkinsville police on April 17 around 7 p.m. were called to a Colham Ferry Extension address after the owner of a 2007 Lexus noticed that her car was damaged. It appears that a rock had struck the trunk lid, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon.  The car had been parked in the driveway all day and the owner stated that she did not know who would have damaged her car. In other police news, a 2010 Ford 4-S and a 1998 Ford Ranger were involved in a mishap in the Watkinsville Post Office parking lot on Friday, April 19, at 2:33 p.m. No one was injured but the passenger car suffered significant damage. Bird Nest Blamed for Smoke in House on Crystal Hills Drive

Here's a summary of calls Oconee County Fire Rescue answered during the week ending on April 14, 2013.

At 11:16 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, Oconee County firefighters were called to 1141 Crystal Hills Drive to investigate the source of smoke detected in the house. School Bus Involved in Fender Bender Last Week, No Injuries Reported

Watkinsville police say an 80-year-old woman was cited after she allegedly backed into the bus on Jeremy Drive.

No one was injured when a 2013 Toyota Corolla backed into the side of an Oconee County School bus last week as it was driving by on Jeremy Drive.week.  According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. An 80-year-old Jeremy Drive resident was charged with improper backing, he said. Truck Engine Catches on Fire in Lowe's Parking Lot

A station chief happened to be at the store at the time. Here's a summary of calls Oconee County Fire Rescue answered during the week ending on April 7, 2013.

On April 6 around 11 a.m., the engine compartment of a Nissan Frontier at Lowe's parking lot caught on fire. Oconee County Fire Department Station 1 Chief Mike Link happened to be at Lowe's at the time of the call, and he extinguished fire before the fire truck arrived, according to Chief Bruce Thaxton.  Engine 801 later added water to cool down the truck's engine, he said. Tractor Trailer Strikes Railroad Crossing Mast

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

A 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig struck and destroyed the railroad crossing mast and warning lights on Ga. Highway 15 at the railroad crossing around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2. According to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's news release, the truck had attempted to make a sharp right turn from McRee Street onto Ga. Highway 15 southward. No one was injured but a large amount of damage was done and traffic was disrupted until a Hartwell Railroad repair crew could arrive from Social Circle.   A 53-year-old man from Branford, Florida was charged with a no through trucks violation.
