Developer: Epps Bridge Centre a Quality Project to Attract Regional Shopping

The Bishop Company, alongside community and business leaders, officially broke ground Tuesday on the 486,000 square foot shopping mall being built along the Oconee Connector Extension.

The golden shovels were out Tuesday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future Epps Bridge Centre located on the Oconee Connector Extension. "This is going to be huge for the region," Oconee County Commission Chairman Melvin Davis said of the development. "When it opens in 2013, I think you'll find shoppers coming from many counties surrounding Oconee." The shopping mall and state-of-the-art movie theatre will generate special-purpose, local-option sales tax revenue and create jobs, which Davis said will be good for the local economy. The 486,000 square foot Epps Bridge Centre is Bishop Company's second project in the Athens area. The general contractor, Benning Construction Company, recently built the Carmike Cinemas' Gateway…

Stores I would like to see- The Container Store, William Sonoma with capacity for cooking classes or a Sur La Table also with cooking classes capability , how about a high end department store as an anchor, also a Soma( part of Chicos) what about restaurants - maybe a cheesecake restaurant. Groundbreaking Planned for Epps Bridge Centre

The shopping mall, which will include a 16-screen movie theater, is being built along the Oconee Connector Extension.

The Oconee Connector Extension has been open for a couple of months, and crews have been clearing trees for weeks at the site of the future Epps Bridge Centre. Now, according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald, Bishop Company is preparing to officially break ground on the project Tuesday. The $76 million retail development is happening on a 68-acre tract located along the new stretch of roadway. An estimated 22 commercial buildings are planned, along with a 16-screen theater that will feature state-of-the-art projection and stadium-style seating to accommodate almost 3,000 people. Im glad that Athens will have another option for going to the movies, and hopefully we can get a Steak N Shake in there... Only thing Im not looking forward to is the congestion that is bound to come when this mall opens.   more ›
