1.Temperatures will rise once again this afternoon, and the high may even hit 70 degrees, according to the weather channel.  Expect partly cloudy skies. 2. There is a special breakfast this morning to honor this year's Oconee Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) students and teachers hosted by the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce at Family Life Care Community.  3. North Oconee High School tennis teams host Mill Creek at 4 p.m.  Also in sports, it's North Oconee vs. Elbert County at 5:30 p.m as the Boys Basketball Region 8 AAA Tournament continues. 4. As you begin your day, consider eating a hearty stack of pancakes for breakfast in honor of National Blueberry Pancake Day.  Check out this recipe for the whole-wheat variety.  You can pick up the ingredients at many  local grocery stores such as Publix. 2. 1. Former Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond is the guest speaker for this morning's 6th annual Men's Prayer Breakfast at Shady Grove Baptist Church.  2. The Small Town Politics - North High Shoals blog reports a plan for volunteers to plant bulbs and clear paths from 9 a.m. to noon today in the city park, weather permitting. 3. Basketball games today include Athens Academy JV boys and varsity girls' and boys' squads hosting George Walton Academy.  The JV matchup starts at 1 p.m. and varsity games get underway at 2:30 p.m.  Missisippi State takes on UGA in men's basketball this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Stegeman Colosium.  4. Cooler temperatures lead Oconee into the weekend.  Highs are expected to reach into the mid to upper 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. 2. In an interview with Patch, Watkinsville Mayor Joe Walter discussed renovations that will take place at Harris Shoals Park in the near future. The Flavor of Oconee County Middle School Basketball

The OCMS girls' basketball team managed a tight win over neighboring Winder-Barrow, while the OCMS boys' team lost to to the Bull-pups.

The Lady Braves achieved a narrow victory over the Winder-Barrow girls' team Wednesday, 39-37, while the OCMS boys lost to the Bull-pups 46-39. The real reason anyone was present at this game was not to discover whether or not either team won or lost. Everyone was there to be part of the action. It is likely a seldom occurrence that a spectator will attend a middle school basketball game following a high school game, which is unfortunate, for every party involved. The difference between the two is so pronounced and so transparent that each could be considered a different sport entirely. Obviously the students playing  middle school basketball have not yet refined a lot of the necessary skills that make a successful player. Ball handling is…
