UGA Police Release Composite Sketch of Attempted Rape Suspect in Athens

A woman walking on a trail last Friday at the State Botanical Garden managed to escape her assailant and to give GBI officials a description of the man.

  If anyone recognizes this individual, believes they may know who he is or has any information about this incident, they are urged to contact the UGA Police Department at 706/542-0090 immediately. See also:

Hunt Continues for Attempted Rape Suspect in Athens

The investigation into Friday's incident at the State Botanical Garden continues.

  The State Botanical Garden is laced with trails, used daily by those who like to walk and hike. On a trail, you can relax and think about little besides what you are seeing around you. Or could, until the UGA Police on Friday reported an attempted rape of a woman walking on one of the trails. According to police reports, a woman was approached by a man wielding a knife who threatened to rape her. She talked to him and managed to escape him before he could harm her. The University Police will have someone to talk about the case on Monday, officials said.

Oconee Deputies Assist in Search for Attempted Rape Suspect in Athens

Authorities Friday evening combed the area of of the State Botanical Garden on South Milledge Avenue.

K-9 search teams from Oconee County Friday assisted University of Georgia Police in the hunt for an attempted rape suspect in Athens near the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. A man armed with a knife threatened to rape a woman as she walked on one of the trails but she was able to break free and seek help, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.  The woman called UGA Police around 4:20 p.m. to report the incident, according to the newspaper. Shortly before 7 p.m., the Oconee County Sheriff's Office sent out a Nixle alert advising that K-9s were deployed and patrol deputies were assisting with the search.  Athens-Clarke County Police were also involved, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.  Authorities gave the following description of the …
