Man Accused of Assaulting Police Officer Surrenders

Rickie Korey "Woo" Powell turned himself into the Clarke County jail on Tuesday, police said.

A man with ties to Oconee County who was wanted in Athens on robbery and assault charges surrendered himself to the Clarke County Jail Tuesday afternoon, police said. Rickie Korey "Woo" Powell is accused of assaulting an Athens-Clarke County uniformed officer during a robbery of the BP Gas Station located at 4000 Lexington Road last Thursday, April 18. Following the incident in Athens, Oconee County Sheriff's deputies with permission searched a relative's home on Farmington Road, Powell's last known address, but did not locate him there, according to an incident report. Authorities Searching for 'Violent and Dangerous' Robbery Suspect

Rickie Korey "Woo" Powell, whose last known address was in Oconee County, is wanted in Athens for allegedly assaulting an officer with a vehicle during a robbery at a gas station.

Authorities are searching for a man they say assaulted an Athens-Clarke County police officer with a vehicle during the robbery of BP Gas Station at 4000 Lexington Road on April 18. There are active warrants in Rickie Korey "Woo" Powell's name for robbery by force, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and obstruction, police said, adding that Powell "should be considered violent and dangerous." According to a Nixle alert, Powell's last known address was Old Farmington Road in Bishop. "He is known to frequently visit Clarke County to include the areas of: Bailey Street; Epps Bridge Road; Martin Circle; Milledge Avenue; Whitehall Road; Downtown," the alert states. News Nearby: Pit Bull Seriously Injures Boy in Athens

The 8 year old was flown to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon following the attack, according to police.

  An 8-year-old boy suffered "very serious injuries" after being attacked by a pit bull at an Athens home on Saturday, Athens-Clarke County police said. Officers were called to a Hidden Lake Drive address shortly before 1 p.m. where the child had been bitten multiple times, according to a news release. The boy was life-flighted to Egleston Hospital. "The boy and his older brother were visiting the home of a family friend and had been playing with the homeowner's dog," the release stated. "As the two boys began to wrestle, suddenly the dog became excited and bit the eight year old multiple times causing very serious injuries." The brother wasn't harmed, police noted. The dog is in the custody of Athens-Clarke County Animal Control.

Man Wanted in Oconee for Failing to Appear on Aggravated Assault Charge Picked up in Athens

Athens-Clarke County police also charged Billy Joe Furr with possession of drugs with intent to sell. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens-Clarke County officer on patrol around 5:30 p.m. on March 10 saw someone driving a vehicle that had a cardboard car tag. The officer stopped the car on on Danielsville Road at Walker Drive and talked with a man identified as Billy Joe Furr. A warrant check revealed an outstanding warrant for Furr in Oconee County, so he was arrested. During a search of his vehicle, the officer says he found an open container of alcohol and two prescription medicine bottles. One contained a prescription for Furr as well as a small plastic baggie containing a clear crystal substance, according to the report. Watkinsville Man Faces Felony Drug Charges in Athens

Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Joshua Edward Tucker at a Lexington Road convenience store on Feb. 21. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

  An Athens-Clarke County Police officer on patrol saw a vehicle being driven by a man he believed had outstanding warrants around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 21. The warrants were confirmed and the officer made contact with Joshua Edward Tucker, 27, at a Lexington Road convenience store and arrested him. As the officer talked with Tucker he saw what he believed to be a marijuana cigarette. During a search of the vehicle, a quantity of suspect marijuana, cocaine, and Hydrocodone pills were found, according to a police report. Tucker, of Wire Bridge Road in Watkinsville, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II drug, and possession of schedule I/II …

Charles Rodney Wilson turned himself into Athens-Clarke County authorities Tuesday.

Athens-Clarke County Police released the following statement Tuesday evening: On October 30, 2012 around 5:00 PM Charles Rodney Wilson was taken into custody at the Clarke County Jail for a murder that occurred on October 25, 2012 on Old Monroe Rd in Athens-Clarke County, GA. UPDATE: ACC Police Report Stabbing Suspect Now in Custody

The multi-agency search comes to a close.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office assisted the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in the hunt for an aggravated assault suspect in the area of Stonehenge subdivision Wednesday. Both agencies sent out alerts via Nixle messaging. The Athens-Banner Herald reported police said a man was being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital after having been stabbed three times in the woods. According to the ACCPD, the incident took place near Altar Stone Drive and Sarsen Circle just before 10 a.m. Police described the suspect as a 6'00" tall black male wearing a camouflage jacket and a ball cap.  Investigators later told the ABH a witness identified the suspect as 19-year-old Devante Baker of Colbert.
